bug@5speed parts arrived :)
Just wanted to pass onto everyone that my 5 speed conversion parts arrived this past week.. So far from my initial observations, parts look very good, and quality is excellent.
I will take some pics of the parts and the conversion process for all... Unfortunately since I had to shell some bucks I am a little short.. so I need to build up my VW funds piggy bank.. Since I live in the northeast, weather is a pain in the butt.. came up with a solution since I have a nice back yard.. will be putting a 10*20 plywood and framed floor for the low budget carport that I am going to pick up at Costco.. Not to cheap but at least I will save about 100 on shipping.. (about 180, plus about 200 to build the deck.. If anyone has question feel free, and I will try my best to answer.. MARTIN, that shifter is wild.. what pitch and size is the tread... Need a matching wild shifter to go with it.. I also got from Martin an issue with SB with Scooby power and porsche tranny.. that front mount radiator is quite slick.. Will need to scan to show everyone.. the motor install is also quite neat and tidey.. Makes me want to ditch the 1800 type iv and look for a SOHC head with a STI short block.. 2 lt or 2.5 lt.. but will hold back as that would require another tranny (currently 901) Plan for now is to build the outdoor garage and simultanouesly (sp) start unbolting the body off the pan.. Might as well do the floors, brakelines, and trailing arms with the body off.. Ohhhh it just doesn't end.. Alex On top of that the scooby needs some attention and parts.. Man I hate this hobby..

Loaf,
eager to see pictures of the parts you got from Martin. Would you list these parts for those of us about to make the leap to the 901 trans install. I have the UltraVW issue with the 'howto' and the 901, I am also interested in how long it took to get parts ect. ( I would love to know what you spent all out including shipping from oversea's but that might be perhaps a bit too personal a question to ask ). Any info you may have would be great. Looking forward to following the progress and wish you the best with it! regards, jmd |

No problem.. I will see about answering.. Just be patient.. I am working with Martin on translating the 5 speed shifter instructions, so that will also help and make things easy for those non-german speakers.. As far as parts and pics I have been meaning to do that just no time.. I will promise to get it done this weekend.. Just be a little patient.. Loaf

Ok the long awaited parts arrived and I had a little time to snap some pics.
Would have loved to have done a trial fit on some of the parts but had to do some plugs on the scooby (Man I hate the Subaru flat four design when it comes to swapping plugs, all those honda's I have owned were so much simplier). Ok sorry for the rant. Enclosed are pics of the Bug@5 Speed parts by Martin Bott. - 5 Speed shifter - Trans Output flanges (Very Nice) - Front Tranny Mount - Rear Tranny Mount and 901 Case adapters. The adapters are form fitted to the shape of the tranny. - Nose Cone There is a few other pieces for the clutch but they are still wrapped and for fear of losing anything did not open up yet. I will keep everyone posted. With the nice weather in the NE that we have been having my may make progress on my outdoor car port and be able to take the body off in a few weeks. VR Alex or Loaf

If anyone wants larger pics let me know and I can email.. I am almost finished with translating the shifter instructions from German with some intern help at work, should make things easier Let me know what you think.. If you curious on quality, and Bug@5Speed.. So far Martin is been a champ, transactions was smooth. As far as quality so far I am very pleased. The items in the kit look top notch and I feel will make the conversion easier. I sometimes wich I would have gone 915 due to the fact that I keep on eyeing my scooby and others for their EJ series engine. Still torn. Alex

I am very intereseting in who sold you those pieces.
If I got it right it is 901 conversion for T1? Nice quality and finish on all parts. Maybe tell me price too? I will not be too shocked but I guess not cheap? |

http://www.bugat5speed.de/cms/ Its in german but Martin speaks english.. Use altavista or similar to read.. And the conversion parts are to install a 901 into a bug, he does/working a 915 also.. Lastly he also has parts for scooby into beetle.. Alex

901 Shifter test fitting.
Update,
Started on the Shifter. So far so good. Removed the old shifter, and made space for the updated Bug@5Speed part. Pulled the old shifter rod, tricky but quite easy. Really like the feel, and look I hopefully will remove the body from the pan soon to do the tranny install. Ran into a snag with the rear spring plates (making way for the 944 Alum) but that will be another post. Enjoy the pics. Hopefully more to come ALex aka Loaf

Taking the body off is not nessary. It will make the job easier, though. One thing you will need to do is lift the rear enough to have access to the frame horns. So a good set of jack stands is necessary. VR Alex
