New to type iv questions ?
Hi Ive just put a GB code type iv 2056cc in my 1303s & its mint .
Its running DTM V2 cooling with a Mocal 19row oil cooler . Ive got an oil temp sender plumbed into the oilcooler lines ,but on a brief 10 mins run it hasnt moved ? I have no cooling on the remote oilcooler currently (will I need any ? I have a 12v fan to fit if needed) Its also running a 30mm melling oil pump (I think ) if that will make any difference ? Just trying to sort the bits & bobs out before I go for a proper blast |

Hi
Could you move the sender to the oil tube filler hole, I assume that you would have a blank off there. Do you have an oil stat fitted? 10 minutes is not much running time. Steve

Hi theres no stat fitted at the moment as
I'm waiting for it to arrive. On the dtm the alternator stand is the oil filler same as t1 so no where to fit the sender. Problem is this engine has caused me no end of problems in the past when it was in my 914, now ive got it running in the bug ive become attached to it & i dont want to cook it on the 1st trip out |

You need to make sure the oil temp sender has a good ground on the case threads or it will never work. You could use a 914 taco plate with the sender mount in it. or weld a nut to the flat style plate and drill it.

Hi
I meant the stock Type 4 filler hole on the right hand side crankcase 1/2. Steve

were you have the sender will be fine, just make sure it has a earth or it wont work. 10 minutes should see a slight increase in temps if your driving it ,depends were your guage starts reading from. my autometer guage starts at 140*f.

Finally got my charging issue sorted ,earthed the sender and went for a test.
Was out about 15mins before another oil leak popped up Gauge read about 95 degrees C on run but only did about 5-6 mile. Other than the mocal cooler on the boot floor there isnt any oil cooling , will it need a fan guys ? |

Oil coolers work by exchanging heat from passing air through the cooler.
No air -> no cooling. And yes, you need an oil cooler. Guess what even a stock engine has..;-) Either mount cooler in the nose or use a fan. Its that simple imo. |

Sorted the oil pump leak & front crank seal leak
Fitted electric fan on oil cooler so just sorting the little jobs out now |
