Interesting mods all around. A couple questions from the engine picture:
1. Would you expect any performance issues if the #1/#2 header tubes were not clamped like you have them? Mine are not and freely slide... 2. Why isn't the crankcase breather box vented back to the carbs? Thanks, Bill |

![]() ![]() As to your q's: 1) No, no performance issues, they may just leak a bit over the slip joints if you won't clamp them. Actually they shouls be welded, but I wanted the option to use this header on another engine in the future, so I clamped them. 2) I never had a need to route the breather box to the intake. Some say the oily fumes make your octane rating go down and with 10,8 Compression ratio on pump gas, I didn't want to take chances for now. Thanks, Walter |

Wally, nice to finally see pics of your ride, it looks great :agree:
Im doing a 75 1303 as well ![]() One question, what mods do you have to do to use 100mm cylinders from a 964 to make them work on a T4?

Thanks,
Here's all you need to know: http://www.shoptalkforums.com/viewto...hlight=nikasil And the thread that I was actually extra motivated by to finish the project because 'somebody' on GermanLook.com said it wouldn't work...: (remember? It got so out of hand, Alex had to close the thread.) http://www.germanlook.com/Forums/sho...hlight=Nikasil Look at the date: that was two years ago! |

Wally,
You stated in your vehical details "944 turbo Cup spindles with VW Golf (rabbit) struts with Passat rear springs on 1303 perches". I thought that rabbit struts would not fit the 944 turbo(951) spindles because of the wider hole spacing on the 951 spindles. Did you modify the struts or the spindles? If so, how? I am currently looking at how I am going to add 1986 Porsche 951 Bremo calipers to my 75 Super Beetle(1303). Thanks, Randy

Hi
Where have you bought the wing that you have intercooler in. It looks very good on the car. Have you measured how effective it is with the cooling of the ic ![]() |

Hi Kai,
Saco kit worked very well for me. I had the gen.1 version (obviously) and just replaced the nylon line from slave to master with a (copper) brake line. I was afraid the brake line would be too small in diameter, but it works fine still. If you have the choice, I would use a slightly bigger line. Even with the original slave (from CNC), it worked just normal, not especially heavy, even though the stock 915 clutch operates very heavy in itself. I still run the original master from SACO, but now with a annular VW (Passat) slave. Still works fine (against my expectation lol). Good luck, Walter |

Thanks for your reply Wally that's great information for me.
I rebleed my current system last night and managed to get some air out of the system but my pedal is still pretty firm. So I'll be pulling It apart soon in an attempt to fit the Saco master cylinder then. I'm going to have to remove a lot of the excess material from my Saco master cylinder, I've also got to rotate it 90degrees as its too wide with the fittings on the side to fit in the tunnel with my coolant pipes. My current master cylinder is a nightmare to fit/adjust/replace. I may even look for a equilivalent specc'd master cylinder if I can't trim the saco M/C enough. I've already fitted a brake line front to back as that was a similar size to what came in the kit and I have the flaring tools available. Wally will you be going to Ninove in March? |
