A quick intro

Hey guys

Pete noticed me as a fellow Toronto area VW owner over on the ultimate aircooled forums, and directed me here.

I bought a 73 Super "Sports Bug" out in Calgary in late October, after driving out to Edmonton to deliver a car I had sold. Brought the Bug home, got the safety done, it's now away for the season of course. Just over 100,000 miles on it, pretty decent condition (made the 2,000 mile trip OK), as it has lived its whole life in Calgary up until now. Plans this winter are for some Topline stuff to get the front end down, and chunkier tires on the 914 replica wheels. Eventually I would like to get a bit more power in the car, along with a brake upgrade and a 16" or 17" wheel & tire combo.

When I was a teen I had a 72 Super for about a year and a half, killed the poor thing. I had put on the dual Kadron carbs, cheapy header, 009 distributor, the usual stuff from Hayman. I've been thinking about getting another one for years, and when I had the opportunity to go out west, I took advantage of it. A pic of the car before it left Calgary:

I'm up in Caledon, and hope to make it to Oakville Tuesday night for your regular gathering. I'm usually working Tuesday nights until 8:00 pm, but should be able to shoot down there for 8:30ish.

cheers
Ed N.

Cool, you found your way over.

I don't know how many will show this Tuesday with Christmas around the corner, but I'm sure we can figure out how to spend your $$$$

see-ya,
Pete

hey there, beautiful bug you've got! I hate you already having that soft top! Hope I'll get one on my bug some day.
Did they ever make open air 1303's or was it converted?

Maybe I should try to make this meeting Tuesday with my order pad
Both kids are sick, I'll try to make it, but it's sketchy right now.

Nice car by the way. Ragtops are cool. German grafted or aftermarket?

Welcome Ed!

There are a lot of knowledgeable people in the group who are always willing to help. You've found the right place. Welcome aboard!

I'm planning to make it out on the 11th, but working two jobs is eating ALOT of my time (also meaning I won't have made any new for "show and tell"). Hopefully I can swing it.

Cheers,

Alex

11th?

Flip your calender! Again, you're a month behind. So how many steins did you hammer back at Octoberfest in Munich. You must have left a few brain cells over there...... :haveadrin

I liked the reaction so much, when I has last months date wrong, I thought I'd do it again!

Alex

(P.S. Calendar has been flipped on a totally unrelated note)

Thanks for the welcome guys. Hoping to meet a few of you this Tuesday coming ... I understand that the upcoming holiday season is a priority for many, especially the ones with young families.

The roof on the car is an aftermarket addition, seems to be decent quality from what I can tell. The shape of it made for some additional wind noise when I was driving it back from Calgary across the open Prairies in late October, but for summer in southern Ontario it should be just fine. I plan to have it wide open as much as possible.

cheers

Don't worry, I have a pretty vivid imagination. I can spend more than enough on my cars without any help!!

I cleared out my "fleet" in October, a 95 Thunderbird Super Coupe, and a 68 Cougar, and decided to start fresh. So the Bug was the first replacement, and then I also picked up a 95 Taurus SHO 5-speed for $900 a few weeks ago. That one is going to be my new beater for open-track events, so I need to get some suspension, brakes, and tires under it.

cheers

Nice to meet you too Ed! We're a small group, but we're about as passionate as you can get towards these little cars. Everyone has their expertise and makes for a decent little club.

My expertise is breaking parts, and offending women

Alex
