Looking to buy a used welder in GTA

Hey All,

Does anyone have any leads on a used welder (MIG w/ Gas) in the area ? I'm looking to buy one so I can do some work on the bug, and it will come in handy when its time to fix my floorpans.

I've looked at Princess Auto and Canadian Tire but was hoping for something a little cheaper.

Let me know please !

thanks !

Sandeep

Sandeep, I have a extra Clarke Mig, can be used with or without gas, but it is in Calgary. Used to do the bodywork on my truck, very simple setup. One suggestion, buy yourself a selfdimming mask, they are a big benifit when it comes to welding.
If you cant find anyhting there let me know.

Sorry I can't help myself :silly:

I seen your subject, "buy a used welder" and the first thing that came to mind was you purchase an old man that has poor eye sight from years of welding. Maybe it was just funny to me. So get you a used 'welding machine' and leave those old men alone lol.

Pete,

Give me a couple of weeks to look around. I really want a MIG with Gas but if I can't find one in the range I want to spend, I'll let you know.

Thanks

that "old man" is my dad, hes a professional welder. He used to build rail tankers for Procor here in Oakville. He's an awesome welder, he does most of my welding for my projects.

Sandeep, if you need something welded, just bring it by my house I'm an ok welder myself, not as good as "the old man" but acceptable.

12 years ago I worked for a few months as a welder's helper. Some consider their work art and it truely is.

Bryan,

Thanks for the offer, but I have ALOT of welding to do. I don't want to take time away from your project

I want to replace the floorpans possibly this winter and I want to do it myself. I also want to seperate the body from the pan one day and have some rust panels to install and I want to be prepared.

wow, that is alot of work
well, lets see.
I paid $1200 for my used L-tec welder, its 220v, mig with gas.
You can put a gas kit on a little lincoln welder like petes, they are good for sheet metal, but anything thicker than say 1/8" you will probably need a 220v welder to get good penetration, or else you'll just get grapes. Ill ask steve what he paid for his gas kit, he has a lincoln 110.

My opinion

Sandeep:

Greeting from your insurance broker friend. Well I originally
bought a refurbished Lincoln 110v flux core welder without
gas. After about two weeks trying to get a good welding bead
and after my best friend a former welder used it we concluded that it was not up to the job. My application was very similar to
your since I was welding in replace panels, fabricating repair
patches, etc.

So I decided to go through a "Buy & Sell" magazine, in fact I believe the one I located was from outside the city (ie. Barrie,
Kitcherner areas, etc.) the benefits of looking out of town was that you could find a better deal, better welders and old guys
that retired and no longer need the unit. So the end result for me was I bought one out of Orillia for about $ 500 that had one been used for a month or so and then stored for over three years.
It was a Lincoln 110v model 125 Plus that is a great unit and
works so much better with gas. It actually makes it look like I know how to weld ! Well sort of ! In additon with the welder I got a new auto dimming mask, clamps, etc. etc.

I also have a non-gas unit that you can borrow and try out since you are a trustworth friend whom loaned me his Joe Cali manual
after only meeting me a wek before. It you also wish you can borrow the good Gas unit and try it out for a week, two or three
depending when you might want to use it. I am getting ready for paint soon and also going away to China to visit my daughter so
if your timing is good you might even borrow it for longer. In the meantime if you wish senf a PM and I will forward a telephone
number and we can get together some weekend at my "shop"
and you can check out the welder and my little Super Beetle
project. It is up to you but the offer is free and open ended.

PS. How is the new papa doing ? and is the little boy letting
you sleep at night yet ?

Talk soon.

Allan

Hey Sandeep,
I bought a Lincon mig-pak 110 from C.T. on sale for about $430. It came with the gas solenoid, roll of wire, spare contact tips, cheesy shield, etc. I did all the trim welding on my body with it and am very impressed. Watch the flier I'll bet that they will go back on sale in the next month or so.
Good luck with your search.
Dave
