944 Caliper diferences? Conversion problems
Hi All,
I am in the process of converting a set of CB dropped link pin (disc version) to accept a set of porsche 944 brakes+discs. So far I've had a set of bushes made up to adapt the spindle shaft size to accept the standard porsche bearings, and I've got a set of seals to suit. Now for the hard part... Mounting the caliper. Where I am coming unstuck is that the distance between the two caliper mount bolts does not appear to allow fitment to the spindle. I've got a pair of 86 944 turbo calipers part number 951 351 422 00. The distance between the two mount points is about 95mm. Some of the adapter plates I've seen for mounting porsche calipers have had 86mm between the caliper mounts. Should I have purchased diferent calipers? Do any of these other porsche calipers have less distance between the caliper mounts? 944 352 429 00 83-86 944 944 352 429 00 87-89 944 S 928 351 421 03 87-89 944 Turbo S Suggestions appreciated... I'm not sure how to handle the rest of the conversion. It seems the only option I may have is to mount the caliper forward on the spindle, instead of where it is normally located. This would probably affect steering and handling however... Cheers, Ian Swinkels. |

You use one existing hole and remove the ear for the second one. After that you drill a new hole and thread for an M12x1.5 bolt. Look at the tech articles in the beginning of this site, 944 brakes on VW spindles.
