1303 top mounts

Hi,
I'm just about to buy new top mounts for my 74 1303 but I'm wondering if I should buy the earlier mounts instead of the correct ones for my year. These seem better made and may have less play in them due to it looks as if the bearing is solid mounted. I'm pretty sure the 3 bolt holes are the same position, but I think the cutout the main assembly fits through on the inner wing is a different size. However I'm not sure whether late cutouts are bigger or smaller.
Any comments? Has anyone experience of doing this? Is there a clear difference between bearings?

Cheers

Andy

Later cutouts are bigger.

The earlier strut crowns will fit either hole; early or late 1303. The later strut crowns will only fit the late '73 and up 1303, unless you enlarge the cutout a bit.

Personally, I like the earlier ones.

Thanks for that. I wanted to have a proper look at a pair this weekend but couldn't, but when I last looked at the early type, the bearing looked fixed and a better quality. The later style have the rubber donut - which it looks like vw moved over to for a softer ride (I'm not bothered about that).
Would you agree? I'm going from memory here...
