NACA ducts in lower 1/4

So im still thinking about trying to keep the head temps down on my 1915cc im building (yeah 94mm P/C ). I want to try and get cooler/ more air to the fan as possible to obtain the cooling i want. i dont realy like the look of NACA ducts on the windows (to nascar looking or somthing, and to "after the fact" look) so mounting on the body would be way cooler, and look nicer to me. the body on my super is no perfect, never will be or want it to be as this is a race car/daily driver fun car. so im not gonna worry about ruening flames on hacking up a perfectly good body (its not that bad).
So i begain to think about water, if i mounted the ducts high like the remmele ducts are, and routed the tubing to the firewall, you most likely would be going in a downward slope, or totaly horizontal.... so i thought about puting them LOW right before the fenders (rear fenders yes). this would result in having to route the tubing in a upward slope to the firewall and totaly eleminating the chance of water runing into the pipe... you may get a little mist from the road... but nothing like if it was in a downward slope.

i was also thinking ahout having BOTH sides done with NACA ducts, one side for the fanshroud, and the other maybe to an external oil cooler, or if not that also to the fanshroud.

http://www.butlerbuilt.net/nacaducts.html

i was thinking the smaller (2.75 inch tube) ones would look best, and have the flow i need?

any one know any info on the instalation of them to have a clean look?

Later
Jonathan

true water wont flow up hill but placing the ducts closer to the ground would place them closer to the rain water that is thrown up from other cars and what would happen if you ever went through a deep puddle and got a good splash into the ducts. Cold water hitting a hot engine could be disasterous.

Wonder how many people would buy remmele style ducts if we could get someone to make them out of fiberglass. Might be the next group buy... :agree:

I would totaly dig the remmele ones! but naca ducts are cheaper even if they where made from glass i think the naca would be cheaper still.

Lets see. NACA ducts are what $20 a set. What do the remmele ducts go for.

There are probably enough people interested that we could get a group buy if we can find a shop interested in making the ducts.

maybe, but i still think NACA ducts would be cool. less money, and mounting it low will prevent water from entering the engine area as much. i would not think watter is going to enter the ducts if low, they would be a good 12 inches above the ground if not more. and WHO would go in a puddle over that?

Buy yes, it would be worth investigating the remmele ducts for sure!
that is if they can be made for under 100 i would think. no need for carbon, unless wanted... than just go for the real thing ... OR ask Carbon Joe what he could do, that is.. once he gets back in the saddle.

ill show you a pic of what im thinking...

I think less than $100 would be a good price for the ducts in fiberglass. I have the NACA ducts already but was worried about wind noise with them being riveted into my rear lexan windows.

I made a post in the group buy section. We shall see what happens.

Soon enough they will be plumbed to fresh air hoses going to the oil cooler.... They catch an awful lot of air and will have a large effect.

They are an ORIGINAL 60's accessory for the bug As seen on Empi inch pincher.

Super, check ebay if you just want a couple to fool with. I bought a whole box full for $30, tiny ones, doubles, large singles.
For some really sick carbon scoops, look here http://www.gospitzer.com/prodline1.htm
...that vortex scoop is h-o-t!
