another newbie t 4 ??

do u have to absolutly have to convert a type 4 to a upright fan to put it into a 74 superbeetle. i know the cooling issues but other then that >...

Yes. Unless you want to remove the rear apron and do alot of modification, you will have to convert it to upright cooling.

yep. stock TIV cooling will leave about 4-6" hanging out the back of your bug. you will need to go Cali, DTM or Porsche cooling.

i have a baja so my rear apron is already removed so i dont car if it hangs out cause i have a cage i woried about width

Then you can put it in as a horizontal cooling engine. It has been done. I remember seeing a thread about it on shoptalkforums.com . If you're not worried about the overhang, then no worries.
