need source for bushings
Hello All,
Does anyone have a source for urethane bushings to fit the 944 spring plate? I am talking about the outer side bushing, the one that fits underneath the cast aluminum torsion cover. I found nothing on the Energy Suspension website. I have their trailing arm and VW inner and outer spring plate bushings (the ones that fit the stamped steel VW cover). The rubber bushings from the 944 donor car are really shot, they have deformed quite a bit from age. Regards, Mark. |

I got mine form pelican and they were fine, I prefer using a cut down 944 cove as the bushing gives much better support to the spring plate.
To pre-empt the hassles you will have with getting the old 944 bushing off (it's bonded). Use a knife to get the majority off and then an angle grinder with wire wheel attachment. Worked great for me after spending most of a day trying to burn it off! Rich

I ended up using a sawzall and a wire wheel mounted in my electric drill.

Found some at racer's edge
Guys,
I found that Racer's Edge has Delrin inner and outer bushings for the 944. I had been considering filling part of the 944 cast aluminum spring plate retainers with thickened epoxy and using the VW urethane outer bushings, but maybe these delrin bushes are the way to go. The wider bushings in the 944 cast retainers should give a lot more support to the spring plate and therefore less deflection of the trailing arm. http://www.racersedge-inc.com/bushparts.html If I can find a suitable hunk of delrin plastic, it may be possible to make a set on a lathe. The delrin bushings would be a lot harder than the urethane, but the Weltmeister bushings that Pelican sells are way hard, they are pour-molded out of polycarbonate!!! (that's Lexan) Regards, Mark.
