Exhaust Recommendation Wanted

As the titles states, I'm looking for a recommendation on a full exhaust system for my auto-x/road racing Super. This will be a dedicated racing car so I don't need to keep the heater boxes and it can be louder

My motor is going to be stock (besides the air filter, exhaust, and some jetting). I want something that is going to make a significant power increase while still maintaining some back pressure. I would like it to exit out of the stock exhaust cutouts in the rear apron, but it's not a must.

I'm open to ideas so please speak your mind. Person experience, hear-say, or just ideas are welcome. Thanks in advance!

Just bolt on a 1 3/8" street header and a quitepack muffler. Everyone sales them, and you can get it powder-coated for good looks and it will last much longer. You can lose your heaterboxes, and get j-tubes as well. The QP muffler wont be coming from the stock cutouts, but the performance gain is worth it, you will notice a difference. You could also opt for a turbo style muffler, or the hideaway (tucks up next to the valve cover).

Troy, do they have a website where I could get more information? It looks great but I'm assuming that comes with a large price tag. It might be a bit much when coming to my application.

What size piping is optimal for my application?

From everything I have read, the A-1 is ... well, "A-1." And quite unanimously, too. I have also read that the A-1s are not cheap but at the same time, not over-priced.

Give Tiger a call. From all that I have read, he is a genuine expert.

Sorry, I don't have any first-hand experience. Didn't want your posts going unnoticed.

I'm looking for functional solutions to my Type IV specifications and desires. Since I haven't yet found the ideal solution for me yet, I continue to read and research. And hope.

Give Tiger call at (714)836-7201. Great guy! You're looking at about $299 for the standard Sidewinder header (ceramic coated) and $200-$300 for the muffler, depending on the model and finish. The fully stainless header is ~$100 more. I've got the 1 5/8" black ceramic coated with a fully polished stainless steel MagnaFlow. It's exhaust art... :agree: :agree:

Sidewinder with 17's

Hello,

Does anyone have a Sidewinder exhaust in a GL? I need to know if it clearance problems with large wheels. I have a 69 bug with a Hideaway setup and it barely clears my 215/45-17's in the rear.

The beauty of the sidewinder is if you call Tiger and tell him what cha got he builds around your requirements.
Hey Dennis I thought Tiger had a TIV system too.

Yup.

I had two concerns back then (14 months prior to getting my Type IV engine). One was my concern on how low it was. I have to enter/exit my driveway at a silly angle now with my Kamei spoiler. I'm not sure I could avoid scraping something if I had the spoiler and the exhaust.

The other concern was purely a personal preference. I wanted the exhaust to exit a stock apron. (I actually had to get a Euro-apron as it turned out.)

Back then, I figured I was 18-24 months away from a Type IV, so patience to see what else might develop or beome available on the market was easy. One of things that drew me to the engine I got was the exhaust was included.

If something of the quality of an A-1 that also exits through the normal apron cut-outs becomes available, I will probably snatch it up. I think my exhaust might have another year or two left in it.

We'll see.

The BAS system does all that and more, as it really isn't any lower that anything else on your engine. It also exits the stock apron, but with only one tail-pipe; you can always weld an extra dummy one next to it of course
Just a thought. Th exchange rates at the moment are not in your favour thought

libila,

I'm with Wally on this one. I bought an A-1 for my Ghia, however my first choice was a BAS.

The problem is that unless I was looking to pay a ridiculous amount in shipping, a BAS was just not going to happen, as there are no supplier that I could locate in the US or Canada.

The BAS was about 2x the cost of the A-1 as well (ceramic coated, of course)

Seeing as you are in Germany, the BAS may be the more affordable and/or attainable solution.
