repairing a hurst shifter?

i've got a copper with wood knob Hurst shifter. the "connection" between the trigger, and disc at the bottom is non-existent. this is the way i got it, so i've never used it, and don't know what it is supposed to look like.

what do i use as a replacement? and how do i fasten it?

thanks,
pete
