Engine

Looking for Stock 1600 engine with tins to rip apart. Need to learn how all the tins/sheetmetal goes together, and where it all fastens to. I can return if you don't want to sell. Motor can be mechanically junk/blown.

Locals/GTA prefered.

Lanner, what are your plans with the "ticker"?
When is OldSpeed pulling his?

Hey Pete,

I can help you with this, although I don't have a motor for you, i can show you how all the tins go on. Let me check my "archives" i may have a good diagram as well.

The ticker is in the shed till I get a chance to look at it. You're more than welcome to participate in the activities, but it will not be for a couple months. I can help guide you in the meantime. I'm slightly anal with regards to the stock tin, and keep it ALL OEM steel. Hit me up if you want some quality time with the ticker...hehe

Oldspeed started on his, that fan did some big damage. Broke a bunch of fins on the cylinders and heads. It'll need all new cylinders and atleast one head. I guess the rest of us can learn from this, if you have anything but a stock 1600cc motor, a balanced and welded fan is a MUST. I got a guy who can balance with 1/10th of a gram. If anyone know a good tig welder, maybe we can do a bunch at the same time, I have 3 pieces from my motors that I want to weld/balance this winter. Anyone else in? I'll post some pics of the carnage later this week...

Thanks guys,

I'm trying to figure which way to go to cool the turbo motor.

Options:
-Stock tin
-DTM
-911

I really liked John's black powdercoated tin. Greg's turbo seems to be running well with the doghouse too. What is optimal for tin setup. 36hp shroud, 1600 cylinder tins?

This needs to fit around a ARPM case, and Competition Eliminator heads. I'll post some eye candy later.

You guys have some good OEM tin for me to mock up with?

Lanner, that balance dude is really good. I was very happy with his work on my NA motor, and Nelson was impressed with his work too on his stuff. I also have a line for a tig welder. He's done some aluminum, and thinwall chromo tubing with great results. If anyone has a welded fan, and a stock fan, i can run it to him to show what needs to be done. He's reasonable and does great work.

Pete,

I'll need the name of the balancer guy this November when the 2.4 starts to get prepped. I'll talk to you about the aluminum welder as I need a new container for the ice in the A/W intercooler.

Cooling is a touchy subject ... I'd spend a few $ on a TC logger (Innovate TC1) to see how effective any setup is. http://www.omega.ca/ in quebec for cheap type K thermocouples.

FWIW with my stock cooling tin, i have yet to see over 200F on my motor, and it gets driven HARD and ALOT.

stock german fan, and i've spun the engine to 7000 with powershifts.

Unfortunatly i'm not that familier with the case and heads.

Alex, i wouldn't do that for much longer. "Oldspeed's" fan blew up at the show on Sunday, and some damage as Lanner mentioned above. Probably started letting go at the Dyno on Saturday. Get a welded fan.

Sandeep, thanks for the link. Where do i get those "rings" that clip on the end, for the sparkplugs? Found the TC-4 controller, pretty cool. It can link with one of their guages to monitor all 4 channels.

So where can i score some OEM tin/junk stock motor?

Found a '71 super in the local paper. Been sitting in the driveway since '90. Was running when parked. Turned the motor over by hand, and felt some compression. Backhalf of the floor is on the ground. Should be delivered to my place tonight. I will pull the drivetrain, and some switches. Anyone want the rest of it?
