Final Front Suspenion pic....
...what you see is a thing front beam with Thing tie rods and PTP swaybar. The part still missing is the original Thing front beam supports but for those I need to weld on the piece of metal under the pan to support them.
This is supposed to add strength and stiffness to the front.....the tie rods are supposed to have less flex under heavy braking with big brakes. They are quite a bit thicker. Alex |

wow! that front end looks real beefy.
It should definitely add a little weight to the front end of your car which should be good for handling.

That's looking great, Alex!
Those Thing front beams are really beefy. But I always thought that the trailing-arms, to gain ground clearance, were longer than those from a standard bug? Have you measured them or am I wrong ? Cheers, Richard |

Very well (dare I say german-like) engineered Alex! I see you also have purchased the ultimate GL shifter through PTP (souvenir from your recent trip? :-))

It looks great!!! I've just given up my strut 1302 for some time and start working on a ball joint axle for my '61.
I am very curious about how yours will perform! great stuff!! maybe you could add some detailed pics in the gelleries. Martin |

Hey Walter,
I actually had the shifter before. The Thing parts were all I took home with some parts for some of my club members. Martice, We will have more detailed pics in the suspension gallery soon. I already have them but need to resize them. Have to finish my 911 cooling kit tech article first. Alex |

looks great! the inside half of the shock towers is kinda what i had planned to make for my new front beam which i will use with coils.. didnt realise the thing beams were already like that! sweet! how come you didnt seam weld the two halves of the shock tower together though? i do with all my beams, even if im using the stock torsion leaves because if nothing else, it stops water getting inside.. also adds stiffness to them though.
looks good though! be sure to let us know how it goes on the road/track! |
