Using the Side shifter as the basis for your project can be done. Yes, it will work but it requires more work.. Below are is a highlight of what is needed:

Late 901/911 Nosecone or Bugat5speed
Inner Shift rod from 901
Flip the Diff
Relocate breather
You will also neede the inner shift forks and rods and the side plate.

And since your going thru all that, you might as well give it a tune up.. new seals, and check your syncros..

Basically, you need to convert it to a tail shifter.

There are plenty of folks that may swap with you on the 914 boards, FYI.

PS- As you may know we can help if you need sourcing certain parts or converting..

Alex,

I also have a 914 tranny for the swap. I have not heard that you need inner shift forks and rods and the side plate. Can you elaborate?

Slc,

If your 914 is a tail its ok, because its all the same minus the inner shiftrod.

The side shift is quite different from a inner shiftrods perspective as it has some different components.. Pic is worth a lot here..

If you want me to ellaborate, no problem. I have some pics but won't get to it till later or tomorrow..

Take care
Alex

Alex,

I have a tail shift. If you can still put up pictures that would be great.

Yep.. will do.

The tail just requires the nosecone and inner shift rod.. as well as relocating the breather tube in the back..

See the link for more info.. http://www.germanlook.com/Forums/showthread.php?t=9153

If you still need more pics let me know
