How to identify engine? 1600? 1500? other?
How does one identify an engine? What do you look for?
A buddy of mine has an old aircooled bug, which he thinks has a 1600DP in it, but isnt sure. How do i determine what engine it is? We have no idea if this is the stock engine or not, so we need another way to determine..

unless I'm mistaken, Vw only had Dual port engines that were 1600's. And on top of that, the case only tells you what the engine was when it came from the factory. Almost 30 years ago. My buddy has seen an engine with stock carb and exhaust and it was an 1835.
Still, the numbers will give you an idea of what size engine, but they're not 100% correct all the time. Just something to think about.

Look at the bottom of the case theres only one of the big flat blade screws there, at the rear of the case near the pulley.
