Hugo

There is definitely something wrong with you!!! What are you thinking???

Honestly, I am in awe, you are in a league of your own. I serously take my hat off to you.

Heres my contribution to your build if you have not gone that route already... a rear engine hatch. I thought I had more pics, but can only find the one

Maybe you can use the idea

Rorty chassis

Hugo,

I am planning on buuilding the Rorty chassis for my Karma GT kit car, which I will have to make some mods to get it to work. Could you e-mail me so I can ask you some questions on the mods you made. My home address is LJOZZ@aol.com.

Thanks
Spider

Nice car Hugo. I'm currently collecting parts to build a SBC 283 front engine Super Beetle with either a custom chassis or a modified Chevy S-10 chassis.

Also, everyone, this isn't the first V8 bug, there are dozens out there, but Hugo's is still unique. Most I've seen have front mounted engines. Here's are a couple of links to some V8 bug chassis as well as a forum that features some cool V8 bugs!!!

V8 Bugs Forum (follow the link to the forum):
http://www.V8bugs.com/

You'll find BBC bugs here as well as SBC bugs. One of the BB bugs runs mid 9's in the 1/4 mile.

Here's another link to chassis plans for a V8 front mounted engine.
http://www.prostreetbug.com/

Here's some one actually building these plans:

That's not really competition is the thing, those front mount V8 bugs are pigs to drive, only fast in a straight line and scary at that. The mid-mount is what makes these cars unique, and makes for a whole lot more difficulty to pull off well. The mid-mounts are designed for speed AND handling, the main difference.

Rorty Rover v8 Bug

This is my little project. A mid mounted rover V8 VW Beetle. Like Hugo's it's based on a Rorty designs chassis http://www.rorty-design.com/index.html. I have been working on it on and off over the past couple of years. Here is a web site detailing more on my project. http://users.tpg.com.au/adslrhqj/index.htm
P.S. anyone want a GT40 replica body? I have one on a VW floor pan for sale.

Penno,
Nice looking build! What's that transaxle you're using - Renault?
That lightweight Rover engine should make a good performing "Bug" when you're finished. I understand they can make up into the 300hp+ range with a little work (and lots of $$$). The low weight though is the real winner, IMO.

Will the Rorty chassis require wider fenders?

There was an old article in (I think) VW Greats waaaay back when, with a Bug body sitting down on a Mid-Engineering chassis - mid mounted small block Chevy and Corvair tranny, which was pretty standard fare for their chassis' back then. Supposedly made a real rocket ship, with super wide BBS wheels and low profile tires. Sure looked neat!

Jeff
