What front spindles do I need?
I have a 72 Karmann Ghia that I want to fit 944 brakes to on the front. I have the calipers from an '86 944 Turbo and some 17" twists from a Carrera already.
What I need to know is, what type of spindles will I need to buy to make this work and any other modifications that have to be done. I would like to be able to run the standard speedo cable through the hub as well. I am doing the rears as well but I have found the info I need to make that work, it is just the front I am unsure about. Thanks for any advice you can give me. Yogie |

There's no bolt-on way. You have to modify the 944 hubs for beetle bearings so they fit the KG spindle. Or you can chop off a beetle drum to make a hub, then slip the 944 rotor over that. And ofcourse fabricate a caliper bracket.

Thanks Lanner. Do you make a kit with the 944 hubs already modified to fit the ghia disc brake spindle? If you do, is there a part number you can give me or a price or something?

Thanks Brujo65. Did the hub just go on to the standard ghia spindle or did you need to make a new one? Did you still need to buy a new caliper bracket as well?

Yeah, you have to send me your 944 hubs and vw spindles. I'll machine the hub and fabricate the caliper bracket and modify the spindle to suit. $c340 for the work including new bearings/seals and all required hardware.

Thanks Lanner.
Is it the early N/A hubs you need from the 944 or will any model do? I have the front 86 turbo calipers. Yogie |

You need the turbo rotors, they came in two flavours:
a)86 (rear mount via 5 bolts) b)87-89 (front mount, slip over hub) The hubs have to match the rotors. The 87+ NA/T hubs are the same. All 4 piston brembo's on the 944/964s/Rear 993 are basically the same with minor changes in cosmetics and piston size. The mounting points are the same and the calipers interchangeable. |
