Question Shift rod bend???

Is the shift rod supposed to have a slight bow to it or do I need a new one.

1969 standard beetle...

I had the shift rod from a 74 German Bug and a 2001 Mexican Bug beside each other at one time. They both had different curves to them. But the Mexican shift rod works perfectly in the 74 German tunnel today. I don't think the bend is needed, and I don't think it makes much difference.
