IRS Pan swap
Ignoring that it is technically illegal in the US to switch out a pan because of the VIN numbers, how difficult would it be to put an IRS type 3 pan with an automatic transaxle under a swingaxle type 34?

Type 3's & Type 34's have a bolt on rear subframe, so you can unbolt and replace with another without changing the main pan, so you keep the original VIN.
I believe that that T34 and T3 are exactly the same chassis, and all years are interchangelable, but have never done it myself. A friend has put a late IRS subframe in his early Notch. Only other issue is that early sub-frames has frame forks and a single point rear engine support, whereas later subframes had no frame forks and the engine used a rear engine support bar , so you would need this. Keep us all posted!

Are the front suspensions the same for all type 3's? Or, did VW change styles like in the type 1?
