77' 924 Engine
Could A 1977 924 engine fit in a 1303? What kinds of Porsche Engines are compatible with 1303's?

any engine will fit any car if you're prepared to make it fit. The 924 engine wouldn't be one of the obvious choices for an engine conversion into a beetle. It's an inline 4 and would be very tall in the engine bay and probably get in the way of the decklid closing.
As for Porsche engine compatible with 1303's: the short answer is none of them. The longer answer would be that while the gearbox to engine bolt pattern might be the same in flat engined VWs and flat engined Porsches there's a lot more to the conversion than simply bolting it up. Read around these forums and do your homework before spending your cash on an engine

i said 914 and they are two totally different engines, same case but different crank, cam, heads and carbs. also the tolerances were tighter on the 914.
but enough of the nit picking if its a flat 4 im going to say yes. if its a 6 im going to say maybe as its going to take a lot of work and effort to fit it possibly even a tube chassis

That's true; and even if it did fit, you wouldn't want it.

but by what you were saying about the vw t4 and the 914 is the same as saying that the vl commodore straight 6 and nissan r32 skyline is the same motor as they are based on the same case design. also isnt 924 just a later version of the same motor as the 914

barls,
You might want to read this thread about the Porsche/VW type 4 engines: http://www.shoptalkforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=115650 Here we are talking about the 1.7 and not the 2.0 which is a different animal, but the 1.7 was both used in the 914 and the 411/412. They are identical with heads/cam/cylinders ect... Just don't lump all 914 type 4 engines together...They are closer to VW than you think. Tolerances are all the same...Very good!!! Kelly (Cohibra45) BTW, the 924 engine was basically a VW designed inline water cooled 4 cylinder...not a flat opposed air cooled 4 cylinder Last edited by Cohibra45; January 17th 2008 at 00:41. |
