To Kill a stock tranny

When going to a hi powered engie its not uncommon to upgrade the transmission as well. Often though the intention of the new engine is to dump it to the rear wheels at 4-5K rpm. If thats not your driving style and you just like to floor it from whatever speed you are at, and keep the clutch dumping below say 1500RPM is an upgraded tranny really needed to survive a 160HP T4. This is assuming the stock tranny is in good shape.

Thanks
Ron

If you don't drop the clutch much no. My buddy did burn out competitions for years with 160 hp. What killed his is taking it to 8 grand and dumping the clutch for drag racing.

I heard once that a t1 box can hold 180bhp...maybe for 5 minutes..I do not know, never had a 180bhp engine...
I know that usually an engine over 140bhp would spin the 2dn and 3rd pinions so welding is necessary.

some other opinions would be nice!

how much could a t1 box with 2nd and 3rd welded hold?Even if you do some drag racing with it...
