VW 181 flanges

Is that Atlanta in the USA? If so, check

http://www.thingsunlimited.net. They sell these parts.

Greetings

Stuart

I have a pair of new LOBO cv joints for a Thing, pn 113 501 331D. Also I have the boot kits for them as well. Let me know if you still need them. Sorry, I don't have a set of flanges.

Augie, you should check that part number. A Thing CV joint starts with a 181, not 113.

If anyone else wants T181 transmission drive flanges, send me an e-mail at: brucetweddle@canada.com

The axle splines are the same for both the T1 and T2 axle flanges and trans flanges. You can mix and match. You must use a T1 axle with a T1 trans and a special axle with a T2 trans. The T1 axle also is the right length for a 901 and 915 porsch trans. The T2 flanges both in and out are available from most on the off road suppliers of buggy parts. Swayaway has heavy duty axles if you decide to snap one.

Some Thing parts start with a 181, but shared parts keep their original number, from what I have seen. Thing CV's are the same as a T4 CV. (same OD as a T2, but supposedly has more angular travel). I was also told that the driveshafts are different in length than T1, but have never compared them side by side, so I can't say for sure.

Its true that shared parts between a Beetle and a Thing will have a 113 part number, but only if they are identical. CV joints are not the same. Even if they were the same as a Type 4 CV, they'd have a 411 number or a 181 number, never a 113 number.

Well, I guess both my supplier's catalog, as well as other companies (such as Things Unlimited and the Thing Shop) are wrong.

So, does anyone need a pair of oversize CV joints with a 113 part number that will fit a Thing?

You are right that The Thing Shop has the wrong numbers. I looked up their listing of Thing drive flanges, and they quote 113 517 283U. If you wanted Type 181 flanges would you buy this one? How do you know its a T181 and not a Beetle flange?
