Hmm!
Thanks for the info.

Ok, what means ...they are forgiving WRT lenght...?

SWA has only the normal lengths in the selection.
My shortest drive shafts (typ3 automatic, left side) are 15 5/8 inches exactly like the first selection at SWA.
But I guess I need some shorter ones.

It is about creating enough space for the length compensation.
Will try to get some space on the flanges and joints.
Let's see.

Oh yes, there is also a small progress.

Intake manifold is welded (has to be made nice) and I have removed the turbo, disassembled, rotated the housing of the pressure side by 90 ° and reinstalled.

Forgiving -With Regard To- length...

Sorry to use an obscure TLA (Three Letter Acronym)

The axle does not have a 'stop' or 'shoulder' at the inside of the splined area;
They are held captive by the flanges at both ends instead.

You just need to make sure there is room at the ends each way when the axle is right at horizontal, and the flanges are closest to each other
(And that they aren't so short as to fall out at full droop of course).

This because these are often used on off-road long-travel applications,
And they need a lot of spline to adjust for the extreme travel.

There has been some discussion of the axles banging on the transmission-side flange seal, but nobody has yet reports issues, and many run these,
Seems that the wheel-side flange, with no seal, gets the beating and doesn't mind.

Talking

Little Progress

I finally found time to measure the adapter. Got a 3D dummy to avoid mistakes in the original.
Not everything fits yet, but it looks good.
I borrowed the wheels from the neighbor. He is not allowed to drive right now. Bent his Boxster a bit. (alcohol).
The tire is a bit too wide (255-40), but it is possible to try it on.
225-40 is enough for me.

For the front I have to go a very expensive way because a specialist accepted the order and received the parts, but neither executed the order nor sent the parts back and did not buy them at all. (to replace the replacement value).

Looking, will be nice to follow your build. I'm also upgrading the brakes on my 412, using Porsche Boxster parts.

Wink

This upgrade is a copy close to the construction of you and your specialist.

The front will be made as the spicegirls sang. ....." when two become one "...

Since there is no separate area for small talk here in the forum, I am attaching the lines here.

Hello you lovers of air-cooled VW technology

I wish everyone here a blessed Merry Christmas and a healthy Happy New Year.

Unfortunately, not much is written here anymore, but the scene is still not idle. Yes, I haven't had much to say lately either, but my project hasn't stopped. It just rests for a long time several times because of difficult things, but it goes on.
In the hope of making some progress again in the coming year, I will try to share them with you again.

Hope you've had a nice christmas, and I wish you and all other Germaniacs a happy new year.

I am sure we all applauds any progress, but life can come in the way of our projects. Stay well and confident, good luck with future building!
