-Front control arms
-IRS arms
-Torsionplates

Also today some little parts blasted;
-Window runway of the doors
-The edges of 3 bunnethoods blasted. The original one comes out to be the best one.
-Gearbox-bracket
-Enginehood the underside blasted
-Torsionplates
-And some tubes of the rollcage

After that I cleaned up an bit (because the compressor has to be back on monday morning (now almost an week ago).

After that I scotched the body with P180 and cleaned the body with thinner. What an work was that (almost 4 hours of work to do the completed body). And after that the body finally set in the expensive Epoxy Primer.

Fast some pics of the body in epoxy.

SSSSSSSOOOOOO last thursday I've done something on my car (after I have worked the hole day).

This was finally the first night in two weeks that goes smooth. Everything goes as planned (what was not in the past couple of days :? )

At first I picked up the handbrakelever, then it was machined to the right diameter and after that the anti-slip traction was machined on it (don't knopw the right words for it). .. WHAT AN BEAUTY  .. I'm just proud of it.... An handmade hydraulic handbrake that just looks damn nice also. After that i welded something on the handbrakebracket and put everything together.

http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fo...2005002002.jpg

After that the rollcage was scotched, cleaned with thinner and around midnight set in the EP.

Off course do I know that. I look things hardly through, before I do something. That's why there are big gabs made in the handbrake-bracket so that the original handbrake-cables still can be used (on this handbrake) to go through the yearly safety-check (APK).

See this pic

Have I spooking with you? What for an bug do you have? (pic?)

yetibone July 26th 2005 18:38

Wiebrand, the car looks awesome! You've done some excellent work.

Pardon my asking, but who made that roll-cage in your Beetle?

Racelook July 27th 2005 06:45

Thnx for the nice comments.

I don't know who made the cage :D

So finally an verry small (only text) update.
Last monday and thuesday evening I've worked on my bug what I didn't had done the last 1,5 month.
I've cutted out an verry rusty piece in the trunk and welded an self made piece in it. Also some rusty spots on the place were the trunkhood sits on the body were changed for new pieces.

That's all for now folks.

I hope to do some more update-ing soon... so my car will finally be finished in a year or so.

Axl September 11th 2005 13:14

Love the job done on the car so far . I am impressed at the workmanship going into this car . It is definately not some slapped-together weekend mechanic special . I can hardly wait to see the final results ! Axl .

Racelook September 12th 2005 18:55

Racelook September 13th 2005 17:48

SO tonight I've worked an hour or 5 at my car. Checked several weldings for not being good, welded them and grinded them.

Here are some pics of it.
http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fo...0052332011.jpg

http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fo...0052332012.jpg

http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fo...0052332014.jpg

That spot off course has to be welded at the other side (that's on the planning for next time).

That's it...

yetibone September 13th 2005 19:42

The bonnet and rear deck seal retaining strips are two things I will have to work with on my 1303 as well. Both were eaten away by rust. I haven't decided on a clear solution there yet, as I haven't found any replacements... I gotta have them, though, so I can make this an all-weather car.

I really like the rally handbrake. I have a friend that calls that his "get out of jail free handle" in his WRX!

Very well done Wiebrand! :agree: Keep at it! :D

bow September 13th 2005 22:05

same here but i just used s front end off of my parts car nie was completly gone my hood (bonnet for the european folks) touched the shocks

Axl September 13th 2005 22:34

At this point , all I can say is : SWEET! :agree:

Mikey September 13th 2005 23:57

Not to take away from your thread Wiebrand, the car is coming along Great. Keep up the good work, and keep us up to date too.

In the UK it is common to cut these strips off and use a clip on seal on the bonnet, eliminates the rust trap...

Rich

Racelook September 14th 2005 06:22

The only strip that has to be welded back is the one on the front of the front windscreen. (Or has anybody have an solution for this?)

For the rest you use "Mexico-style" seals

Nice car! It's great that you are posting the progress on your build! I think we can all pick up new ideas!

May I ask what fenders you are using? Brand size, and how they were widened (from inside our outside). Do you have more photos of the fenders?

Thanks!

Racelook September 19th 2005 16:37

Thanks for the nice comments.

The fenders are from Kerscher ... www.kerschertuning.de .... the best polyester fenders I know. The fronts are 2 cm widend, the rear 6 cm.
The're widend form the inside.

Greetings Wiebrand

Axl September 20th 2005 21:02

I love this! I can't wait to see more . Keep it coming , man! I really love the spoiler on the front bumper . Is it Kamei? (forgive my lack of knowledge , but I won't learn if I don't ask!) Axl .

BAVWCJoel September 21st 2005 00:02

hi ive been watchin your car come together i dont know much about racing and i would like to know more and get into it i have some good ideas of a super fast super beetle and i wanted to ask a few things
the first thing is what are the holes in the rear 1/4 panels and wher are you going to put your gas tank because it thought of moving it forward to improve handleing

thanks,bow

kakarottt October 11th 2005 23:09

If anything of my car is not clear, just ask.
The holes in the rear panels are for the airintakes (from which I've posted pics in this topic => some of the earlier pages). They feed the air to the engine bay.

The gas tank is staying at his original place (I still use the original tank). Maybe if I had buyed an aluminium one I would mount it more forward. (mij batterie is going to the front).

Hope that I've helped you.

Grt Wiebrand

Racelook October 12th 2005 08:23

Oops...

I see now that I hadn't posted that pics of the airintake here... so here we go;

An mold is maked from wood for the "Remelle" air-intake.
http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fo...2004230237.jpg

The mold. So the gabs for the intake are the same size and on the same hight on both sides.
http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fo...2004230055.jpg

From the mold drawed on the body.
