No offence (I can't spelling everything either ;) ) but threat is kinda like "danger"!

The correct word is thread

Looks great, I like your project :) :agree:

Well, we ain't hear to learn you to speak more better goodly. :drunk:

Racelook March 24th 2006 17:21

Oeps Jonas, you're right. I've changed it now :D

Today I had picked up something more than the half of the bolts/nuts/rings etc for my 1303..... and you're going verry fast to the 200 euro!!!!

Next time all the bolts will be blasted and passived, but hell yeah this is some special project

p.s. there are +/- 610 pieces of bolts/nuts/rings etc.

After that buyed some stuff at Franky's VW Service (www.kevertuning.nl)

And then I ve spend the hole day on removing the clutchleaver from the clutch-axle. hamering, pulling, heatening. Nothing helped, so I cut it lose.

Update-je from saturday night

Worked from 8 till 11 p.m. (before I went drinking  ). At first pressed the "pitman-arm" of the steeringbox. That gives a big BANG.. (there was 5000 kg pressing on it :D ).
Then drilled holes in the pedals and maked some aluminium plates on the rough size. The aluminium plates will be the contact-area of the pedals.
http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fotos/27646.jpg

Also talked with an guy who is PAYED to transform an Ford Fiesto into an rallycar (Amsterdam-Peking).

On sunday I was out of bed at 9.45 am... with some verry "heavy head" :p . First prepared the gearbox for painting. Than sanded several lose pieces.

Racelook March 29th 2006 06:18

Update from yesterday.

I was verry lucky an day off, so we could work hard on the car. It was the plan to go out of bed at 6.30... but because of an party last monday.. it became 7.00.

Begin with sanding and degreasing of several lose pieces and the gearbox. Then finally this could be shot in EP at 11 o'clock.
http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fotos/27644.jpghttp://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fotos/27645.jpg

Man, man it stays difficult to paint every side/hook. Also this time I have to spray almost everything over so everything is covered with EP.Respect for the painters
After that picked up several bolts, also picked up some parts by Franky's. Then picked up some paint, etc.

After that I again started to sand the 100% covered with EP things. First with 320 dry and than 600 wet. There now ready for the final paintcoat.
At last sanded several things that were not for 100% covered wit EP with P180. What an hell of an job is that sanding of these small parts.

Wiebrand

Racelook March 29th 2006 18:32

So today I had unexpected also an verry short day. SOo I could start at 1pm with working on my car. Sanded several things and shot everything with an layer of EP, so I could eat at 7.00pm.

Ryan Huebler March 30th 2006 01:35

Looking good. I saw you painted your rotors, Will that paint withstand the heat of hard breaking without pealing?

Racelook March 30th 2006 18:40

I have an info-page of the paint somewhere. But I now for sure it won't hold on. But I don't give a thing. A car is maked to drive, not to stand as an show model :)

I painted everything, so the inside of the disc maybe will hold his paint on and will be secured against rust.

Wiebrand

Ryan Huebler March 30th 2006 19:48

Agreed. A car is useless if you dont drive it and drive it hard. Get some cheap stove paint and then you wont have to worry about rust.

Racelook April 2nd 2006 18:36

Update:
Today I had an relax-day :D ... so not an full day working on the car, but I've spend some hours.
Been busy at the handbrake-bracket and the pedals today. Here some not finished result of today.
http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fotos/27972.jpg
After that the sanding started over again  .. 15 pieces with small hooks and gabs :?

Wiebrand

fastdub April 2nd 2006 19:38

did you use a milling machine to drill those pedals ?

Racelook April 3rd 2006 06:40

What's an millingmachine?

WIebrand

zeroaxe April 3rd 2006 12:24

A picture speaks a thousand words :D

fastdub April 3rd 2006 13:50

yeah, what he said

or did you use a hand drill, its just i thought it would be too much of a job for one of those little things

Racelook April 4th 2006 03:23

Yes I used an bigger sort of milling machine to drill these holes. Till 20mm drils it's okay, if larger i get the milling machine that has no belt, but only cogwheels (up to 70mm drill).

Wiebrand

Racelook April 16th 2006 15:40

Last friday completed the handbrake-bracket eand the pedals. After that shot the last parts in the EP.

All the parts of the chassis are now in the Epoxy Primer!!!!!

Today didn't do much, cleaned an little bit.

Wiebrand

Supa Ninja April 16th 2006 17:41

ccain529 April 16th 2006 20:34

Wow Racelook! Nice work!!!!

coxy-ben April 22nd 2006 08:12

hi wiebrand !

some news ???

Benoit

Racelook April 23rd 2006 18:51

Sorry Bennoit.

There's not verry much news, but there's some;

Past week didn't do much on the bug. We had to finish the racecar for past wednesday, because we went racing on circuit Zandvoort. What an experience was that!! SUPER COOL!!!! Cruizing with 175km/h on the straight, full in the brakes and with squeesing tyres through the corners LOVING IT !!

Today started with bonding the chassistunnel. Quite an difficult job that bonding. Looks easier than it is.

No pics today

Wiebrand

Racelook April 30th 2006 13:31

Today bondo-ed (i don't know an other word for it) the tunnel of the chassis. Stays and quite difficult job, but it
s nicely done.

Also masked everything so I can spray filler (higbuild primer) soon.

In the UK we call them 'jogglers'.. Keep up the good work, you keep me fired up about my own project: www.fastbug.net..

Racelook May 2nd 2006 18:41

Thanks Chris.

Today picked up some filler at the shop from Upol (PPG).

Soon I will spray it on.

Wiebrand

Racelook May 3rd 2006 17:42

"Soon" was verry early this week ;)

Tonight I sprayed the filler on (3 layers). Worked out quite well.

Soon the real work (sanding) begins.

Hey Wiebrand,

I notice two different colours on your floor pan. Is the center already painted in the colour that the whole floorpan is going to be in?

Keep up the good work, your updates keep me going too :D

Thanks..

No, this is the filler I layed on. When that is sanded, the real color can be sprayed on.

Wiebrand

zeroaxe May 8th 2006 09:56

Ah ok. So the pans itself are still in Epoxy primer? I think I get it now.

I am currently busy scraping off the rubbish that is painted underneath my floorpan as we speak. Once that is done, hopefully my boss will give me a price on how much it will be to sandblast my chassis. Then it should be painted in Epoxy primer too(but I want to finish the welding work first, obviously)...

Vincent May 9th 2006 13:26

Race look very nice project you have going Keep it up you are going to have one very stiff fun to drive super when your done.

Racelook May 10th 2006 18:56

Thanks guys.

@zeroaxe.. jep pans are still in Epoxy Primer

Today sanded the tunnel of the chassis with P320. Sadly sanded through the filler on the bare metal, so there has to be sprayed another layer on.

Masked the pan and sprayed another layer of filler on. Then let it dry in the sunlight.

Tomorrow the welding begins again :D

Wiebrand

coxy-ben May 11th 2006 00:55

welding again ????????

Wiebrand

I am just courious about all this bracing. New to the vw scene and wanted to know what it is for?

Racelook May 12th 2006 06:17

It gives the gearbox-horns and the mounting of the schockabsorber more strenght, stiffnes. The triangel-shape that ya made with that gives the extra stiffnes. For big engines this is (almost) an must-have.

Racelook May 12th 2006 06:23

Sooooooooooooooo, what an day was yesterday.

At 8 o'clock I stood at the metal"shop" and more than 16,5 hours after that I was back at home.

The day:
I made an nice planning for the day, but sadly I had to reject it at the first thing I did that morning. I was at the metalshop yesterdaymorning, and sadly the guy didn't had time that day to cut some steal for me (one-man-firm, good guy and good prices). Ayeah than that has to go another time.

Then I again started with sanding the lose pices of my chassis. First with 320 after that with 800. What an ****ty job is that (but hell yeah someone got to do it ;) ). Next time I certainly will go wet-in-wet.

The rest of the text and pictures will come this evening (I forgot the time, and have to go now  )

Wiebrand

GL-Aussielooker May 12th 2006 09:40

Is that a part/kit you can buy, I know that you made it yourself. Very nice work . :agree:

Racelook May 12th 2006 16:45

You can buy it as an kit on several suppliers here in Europe. o.a. CSP and GWD.

Wiebrand

Racelook May 12th 2006 16:52

So here is the rest of the update of yesterday;
In the afternoon I got to the paintshop, buyed an new paintgun and asked some info. Sanded again some stuff and started with preparing some pieces for painting.

After dinner finished the preparing of the pieces, degreesed all the stuff and finally painted the pieces with my NEW paintgun. I took some time to get used on it, but what an great gun, much more injustable as the other one.
Sprayed the black 2K paint in several layers and layed an layer of clear on top (not standard).

When again the paintgun was cleaned I was at home around 0.40 a.m.

16,5 hours of work :D
