Man, that looks good! What gun did you buy? And if you dont mind me asking how much you paid for it? I cant really find a good quality gun here in France in the DIY shops(when I say good quality, I mean just by looking at them through the packaging in the shops. They all look 'un-refined', if that makes sense?) I have worked with a DeVillbis(sp?) gun in S.Africa when I used to work on airplanes, and my gun was REAL GOOD quality back then. Just a shame that it got stolen out of the shed at some point(man I was upset when my mom told me!!!). The plus point is that I didnt even have to pay for it!...... :bawling:

Racelook May 12th 2006 18:18

Sata's and DeVillbis are the best (if I may trust the guys at the paintshop).

I don't have the money for that guns (+/-180-300 euro), so I asked them what was an good gun for an good price.

And they recommended this one, it is an remake of an mark gun (from which I can't remember the name). And it's cost only 60 excl (around 75 euros incl), I find it good adjustable and finally I can buy every lose piece on it again!!! And there were nozle from smaller than 1mm till 3mm.

So yesterday night sanded another four hours on the tunnel. Last time after sanding with 320 shot on an control-layer. Yesterday sanded the control-layer with 320, than antoher control-layer and then sanded with 800.

Sadly sanded throught the filler +/- 10 times so I picked the 1K filler and shot some of that on the spots. Next time an little sanding on that places and were finally going to paint the pan.

Here some pics of how the pan was yesterday afternoon.

So, Today i've been bussy again.

At first set the chassis on the self-made dolly.

It's so nice that you can move the car on your own, without help of someone else. GREAT =D>

Than sanded the underside of the pan with 800, then masked the upsaide of the pan, then degreased the top of the pan. Mixing some paint and shot it on..................

At first I was afraid that the paint wasn't good any more after standign still for more than 2,5-3 years. But luckily it was as spraybale as new.

After that I sanded (10 though 15) lose pieces of the pan (with 320 and 800).

p.s. for the guys that things; where's the sealer and the bodyschutz? They will be added thus week.

Axl May 22nd 2006 00:12

Now that's HOT! Awesome colour choice!

Racelook May 27th 2006 13:42

Just quickly some pics of the painting of last monday.

http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fotos/31779.jpg

And now the story of past 2 days;
The day before yesterday I started at 7 o'clock p.m. with scotch-ing the underside of the pan. Then masking, than degreasing, then bringing on the sealer. The sealer has to be on that day, so I could spray bodyschutz over the next day. What a $hit job that sealer #@*&(^#@ , but it's done. At half past 11 the pan is turned over and the handling repeats and I finally was ready at 2.30 am!!!

What an hobby.

Sealed the underside

Racelook May 27th 2006 13:43

Yesterday (thursday) started with sealing some lose pieces of the chassis, the turned over the chassis and again degreased it. After that sprayed on some bodyschutz.
Bodyschutz

And than I finally could start sandblasting AGAIN  When I came home it was already today (friday).

Yesterday evening, before I got to the party, sprayed the underside of the pan with bodyschutz and some lose things.
Today (late in the afternoon) hope to turn over the pan and spray the other side of the pan and the front control arms.

Wiebrand

Racelook May 28th 2006 18:20

So the top of the chassis and the front control arms are sprayed with bodyschutz by my brother, because I had to drink some beer:rolleyes:

Hey

Sorry to go back in time a while Wiebrand but how did you fix your fuel lines in your tunnel and how much clearance did you make for pedal/clutch hook.,did you bend that first then put tubes in to the tunnel.Did you do the end bends while tubes were in tunnel or what.Sorry to ask obvious questions but Im about to start doing my fuel lines for my 2.4 turbo type 1 and need all the help I can get.Im 2 years into my build 1303 75 model but its got parts from many differrent cars Boxter S Brakes 944 hubs 18 inch five spoke Porch wheels.Motor was assembled by Scat USA and heaps more stuff.Im very envious of your cage,Ive bought the pipe bender trying to get to Roll cage but fuel comes first.Your project looks great cant wait to see it finished.Good luck JS from Australia

Racelook June 22nd 2006 09:18

Thanks JS!!! Love all the good reactions that I get of all over the world!!! That keeps the good work up!!

For the fuellines;
I first cut out an piece of metal at the "rearlegs" (as to see on the pics) and at the front of the original outlet.
I put the fuellines in from the front (through that opening). Before I put them I make one "sharp" turn at the front, with an lengt so the line just can go through that opening in the front. Than lay that line on top ot the tunnel and see where it has to be bend at the back to go to the "rearlegs" (you have to make an soft S-turn in it). Don't bend it too sharp or you won't get it in.

After that put the line through the opening in the front and push it to the back (sometime an little hitting with an hamer is neccesary). When it is at the original fuelline outlet make it fit. And at last you bend th fielline up at the rear. After that weld back the pieces that you cutted out.

Here is an map with pics.. I hope you can get what I'm saying.

turboL June 25th 2006 23:28

Thanx mate.

Thanx a lot man you have done a greate job.Im using 12mm aluminium tube I got from speed floww,so its soft and ezy to bend.Im gonna put plastic tube over that to protect from wear. Also going to weld some brackets into tunnel so I can solid mount the tube as well *** cable ties where ever I can .I will cut similar holes to you and another infront of the gear shift as I want the fuel lines in very tight so there will be no leeks later on.Imagine fuel pumping out, fills up tunnel then BOOM.Ill post some pics when I have finished I hope it looks half as good as your job.Thanx so much for your help and keep on rocking.I also noticed you have done some work to the front control arm mounts on your pan, is this for better steering ,as you are going very low I supose bump steer will be a drama. Please explain???Take care JS

That's the work for a car that is going low and have to be an verry thight handling car. I reinforced the front control arms, and to be sure that the mounts won't brake I reinforced them too (the force that first was transmitted in the arms is after the reinforcing of the arms "moved" to the mounts). Now the force is transported directly to the mount (chassishead) and to the frontshocks. (and I hope that none of them is going to brake in the several years:rolleyes: )

Racelook June 27th 2006 10:32

Yesterday, after an half day of relaxing I was sober again (is that the right word?) and I could start again with working on the car. Sanded several things, masked some things and then again it was time for spraying again. For some reason I mixed the paint too thin so I get 'lopers' all the time. Bad **** because then I have to sand again.

Today I started sanding again, degreasing, etc. and finally some painting in red and clear.

Sent you a reply to your message box thanks a lot for your help brother, very jelouse of how good your bug is looking what sort of mods have you done to tha box eg LSD gear ratios etc? Cheers JS

Tedzbug July 12th 2006 15:30

this is a truly amazing build up......... love to see the progess

Racelook July 12th 2006 18:04

Thanks for the nice response guys, I keeps me motivated:D

@ JS
I didn't do any modification on the gearbox, because I don't have the money for it. Only maked sure (with the 2 selfmade brackets) that it never can turn sideways. The fact that I didn't reinforced any gears or so is because I don't have any money over to build an big engine in the near future, so an reinforced gearbox was not necessary.

Wiebrand
