Nice work Wiebrand - looking good!

turboL July 15th 2006 08:40

Cool

The stock boxes are pretty bullet proof anyway,I hear people breakin CVs more than blowing up boxes,I think you are gonna have one very solid bug when you are finished the G box mount is a work of art,as is the rest of the car.

Racelook July 16th 2006 18:54

Today assambled the pedals.

Also mounted the springplates. Now have to think of something so I can lift them up to the fixing point. Is this position any good for aan low bug??
http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fotos/35606.jpg

Also mounted the two outer bearings in the IRS-arms and started with building up the brakes.

jonas_linder July 17th 2006 14:44

Damn that's nice

If it's low you wont need any thing to push it up ;)

Set it, finish the car and then do it again.. it's almost impossible to get it correct the first time around ;)

Racelook July 18th 2006 18:44

Hahahaha NO NO Jonas;)

Today pressed the bearings in the IRS-arms, mounted the springplates and build-up an little of the front spindles.

I really like what you are doing with this car so far , and I like how you have gone with an orange colour as compared to the black almost everyone goes for . Keep up the good work, and keep posting more pics!

ccain529 July 25th 2006 21:42

Wow Wiebrand!!!
As always your work is TOP NOTCH!!!:agree:
You could eat off of that thing! If that were mine I'd have to put floor mats on the outside and make people wipe their feet before they get in!
You never disappoint! Keep us updated!

any updates?

Racelook August 23rd 2006 09:17

So after an "vacation" (worked 40-45 hours a week) and after some time spend in France I got going on the car again monday and yesterday.

It's now on his own (rear)tires.
http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fotos/37716.jpg

And so is how the pedals, handbrake, etc. looks like.
http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fotos/37715.jpg

Now the welding on the body can go further (yesssssssss still more to weld  ) and finally bodywork can begin.

thats a sweet looking e brake handle set up got any more pics or info on it??

Lurv August 23rd 2006 15:53

How many hours do you have into this?

zeroaxe August 23rd 2006 16:05

Wiebrand,

Some nice progress on your car. Wish I could make progress as quick as you can. At the moment there is just way too much stuff that keeps me away from my car!:bawling:

Anyway, I meant to ask about that ebrake of yours. Now that you have gone hydraulic with it, why do you still need the cables?(or am I just being REALY daft here!?)

Racelook August 24th 2006 09:25

@ajsyrup;
Here's an link of the picturealbum with all the pictures I got from the handbrake. It's al welded together by ourself. And I use an 22mm HRC for it. If I make it the next time and have more money to spend I would use an smaller HRC that is maked for use on hydraulic handbrakes (needs less room then this one).
http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/my_photos.php?id=1999

@Lurv;
There are verry verry much hours in it, don't know how much. But I worked on it for more then 4 years now. (I work on it almost every sunday (an half day) and 1 evening every week)

I still think it's going verry slow, but I don have so much time for it. :( Otherwise I was much further after 4 years, but yeah.

I need the cables for the yearly OT here in Holland. The handbrake have to be an undepended, lose system.

Tonight found some time to work on the body again. In an hour a third of the spare-tire-piece-of-metal was cut out. Tommorow more.

Wiebrand

Racelook September 13th 2006 17:20

Last week sandblasted some pieces of the spare-tire-thing.

Tonight found some time. And after 1,5 hour of cutting, grinding and welding it looks like this.

Is more for cutting and turning brake "corners" in the future (maybe some histo-rallys), but it can also be used as daily e-brake.

another stupid question i just thought for safety purposes an e brake should be cable driven not hydraulic just curious cause i am in the progress of my brake setup and i tell would be hell of a lot easier to do hydraulics then cables just curious

thanks for answering all the stupid questions :D

Racelook September 18th 2006 18:09

No thanks mate..

See my answer on 24 augustus. For safety and OT the e-brakes have to be seperatly and not dependent of each other. Mine are not seperatly, so that's why I have to use the cables ones a year. For only e-brake use it doesn't matter if it is hydraulic or cable. Cable is much easier.

Racelook October 10th 2006 04:27

So there some update again.

The sparetire-platework and the strenghtening bar is in. Also checkes several previous weldings (some cut out and welded in again). I also started with welding close almost every hole in the dashboard-platework.
The backplate (where the exhaust goes through)didn't fit quite good, so had to hammer verry much, but now it finally fits good.

I have some pics of it and will post it soon.

Racelook October 22nd 2006 17:40

Thanks man...

Any updates on your car/engine??

Today also welded some hours on mine car.
De B-pillar and some holes in the rear(side)panels welded close and also started with making an air-intake from an flat panel for the enginelid.

Wiebrand

Racelook November 6th 2006 19:56

After a lot of days with short time, I finally had some time last sunday to work on my car.

We started with making an airscoop for the enginelid. TO first have an cleaned lid, we welded some holes closed, and cut out al the represt pieces, maked some new plates and welded them in. After that the hammering begun to make the sides of the airscoop. They're both finished and one already welded on the lid=> see the pictures.

From the rear

Also are the holes were originally the heating-tubes are mounted welded close.

bow November 7th 2006 18:14

hey i have started to make a scoop simialr to that but i took out the louvers and put scoops over them resulting in two scoops. lookin good keep up the good work

Racelook November 28th 2006 06:28

Had it verry verry bussy with school, so there was no time for my car. BUT this last weekend I finally worked at it.

Much grinding and welding and again changed my minds about some things. AT first welded some holes close in the pillars, channels and dashboard) (there's only an couple of meters left to do  ).
Some pic of closed holes;
http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fo...umbs/42611.jpg
After that I also maked the choiche to ditch the 911-look dashboard (what I picked up two or three years ago for much money and long riding).
I'm now sticking with the original dashboard, only not as boring as the standard one (this is the nude starting).
http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fo...umbs/42612.jpg
Unfortunally this also means that I have to buy new gauges at this point .

And we also got further with the airscoop in the rearlid, we ordered some small stuff and by checking the fitting of the hoodlid it seems that there's something realy not straight  . But we keep the welder warm and have the grinders ready to make it nice again.

Why stick to the stock dash? its abit of an ugly thing to me... if you already had the 911dash aswell?

Chris Percival December 15th 2006 16:24

Well, sometimes you just have to draw a line under a project. What would be nice to do, and you have the time/money to do are two different things. I found that one out the hard way..

I don't stick with the stock one, but use it as an basepanel for my custom dashboard. The 911-style dash, had an too bad shape that doesn't follow the windowrounding verry good. And it was too small. But the meanreason why I kicked it overboard is that I found the tellerhousing too wide. The tellers are almost over 60% off the dash. And that's too wide and ugly for this small bug.

I had it verry busy with school last weeks, hope to put some updates on soon.

Wiebrand

ANd yes I realy want to finish this project soon. But I ratter take some more time to do it good, than to finish it ****ty.

AusSuper December 22nd 2006 00:10

true about the take your time thing, thats my way aswell, never had experience with 911 dash shape etc, so i was curious, shall be interesting what your plans are for the stock based one, dont know if this has been asked, but you mentioned school... how old are you?
