Porsche 911 style dash for 1303? (in the US)

does any one make a porsche style dash here in the states?

Carbon Joe April 27th 2003 20:48

If I get my hands on one I'll make them.

super vw April 27th 2003 21:33

:D carbon fiber would be cool, but only if its not to expensive (over 250) :P

hey Joe, can you make a sheet of carbon fiber thats thin enough to cut with a utility knife(1mm or .5mm?) On my Audi 4000 i want to make some accents around the guage cluster.

Carbon Joe April 29th 2003 08:46

Yes, the thinnest sheet I can make is about .58mm (.0228) just let me know the size you need ? X ? and I'll let you know the cost.

super vw April 29th 2003 18:33

well i need two sheets that are (4 1/8" by 4 1/8").
i have ordered a sheet from you before.:)

Thanks!
Jonathan:)

???

Carbon Joe May 2nd 2003 23:08

Jonathan,
It's $25.00 with shipping for the two 4 1/8" by 4 1/8 sheets.

super vw May 2nd 2003 23:35

can this be cut with a utility knife?

Carbon Joe May 4th 2003 10:50

Well it can be trimmed with tin snips or a good pair of scissors, but if you want to cut holes or windows in them then no. You would need a dremel with a diamond wheel, even though it's thin (.023) it's still very very tuff stuff.

super vw May 4th 2003 13:50

bummer, i was thinking of using a Olfa circle cutter that uses a sharp exacto like blade. so i guess i might hold off on using CF for material.

911 dash

A few years back I saw a company that built a early 911 dash for a 1303 I looked back through my links but can't find anything... I would love a 911 style dash out of Carbon...

super vw July 10th 2003 19:51

Yeah, a carbon one would be slick! also expensive i would think :(

A masterpiece ;)

Vincent July 10th 2003 20:58

where did you get that pic?
I saw a company a few years ago that made an early 911 style dash for the 1303... have not been able to find them online any more. It would be cool to have it with the key on the left like the 911 also.

Alex July 10th 2003 23:48

Hoffmann in Germany sells them too and Remmele makes them in Carbon Fibre.

does any one have them in the USA?

Alex July 11th 2003 00:03

Ask Oliver from PowerTuningParts in his forum if you can not get it in the US.

I am sure it could be shipped.

Alex

$$$$ Spendy I bet! $$$$

Alex July 11th 2003 00:21

Here are some infos:

Kerscher sells them for 261 Euros.
Hoffmann sells them for 158 Euros.

The prices include the German 16% tax so you can deduct that.
My guess that there is a difference in the quality of the dash. I have not seen them but from what I heard is that Kerscher's quality is top.

If they ship ask about Economy shipping. It still crosses the big pond via plane.

Shipping should not be more than 100$. Do not forget that the item is fairly large.

Kerscher:

Select Armaturenbrett......et voila!

Hoffmann:

If you call them or email them mention that you heard about their product on www.germanlook.com .
Let them know that we exist!!!!! :D

Thanks Alex, I will have to look into that! ;)

Superman July 11th 2003 00:47

2 points:

The key to cheap shipping to the USA from Germany is to know a US military member stationed there. Have this person have the item sent to them on base and then they can mail it from the military post office and the rate is only charged from NYC to it's destination is the USA. Not only are you just charged the domestic postal rate there are rarely any customs charges. Yup, I was a military postal clerk :D

The other thing is I have a few pictures, taken in Europe back in 1996 of the 911 style dash in the 1303. I can email them to Alex for the site if desired.

super vw July 11th 2003 00:48

oh cool, pictures on the site would be neat! post a link if you do please :D

Alex July 11th 2003 00:51

James,

you know me......I always want pics for the site.

Okay let me dig out my dusty box of 3 1/2" floppy disks and look through them. I'll email them so you can upload them in the gallery for all to see.

lightning bug July 11th 2003 04:23

I just got 2 early Rabbit (Golf 1) bumpers shipped from Germany. 45 Euro. I thought it would be more.

vujade July 11th 2003 07:19

btw, I have been in cotact twice with Hoffman and they have no desire to ship anything to the USA.

Superman July 11th 2003 07:24

Kerscher will ship to the USA and they speak/read-write English.

Steve C July 11th 2003 10:05

Hi

You could always go the bare bones look.

Vincent July 13th 2003 12:45

True Steve,
I guess it just depends on what look you are going for... Mine is going to be close to the bare bones look only in carbon fiber... I may have a custom dash made.
