Caster adjustment
Is there a supplier that makes a top strut mount for '74 and later superbeetles (1303) that has slots for and aft to give more or less caster?
I rather not grind or file on the body where the strut mounts rest... On the bug I already have the caster-plus bushings for the swaybar (Topline), but I really want an adjustable top strut caster mount (mainly for my 412 as it has the same top strut mounts as a late superbeetle ;) ) Thanks, Walter |
only ones i have seen are on the j-sports site, so getting them from japan could cost loads.
cheers rob |
Hi
Had a Whiteline sway bar on my car that had threaded ends so that caster could be adjusted at the bottom of the strut. I've seen on other makes of cars adjustable sections for the sway bar mounting on the chassis. Steve |
Thanks for the suggestion Rob!
@ Steve: I really only want to adjust caster on top of the strut, partly because of the fact that my 412 hasn't got any of the possibilities at the bottom of the strut mounts for carter adjustment like a 1303 has. Any other suggestions (bolt-on, for sale) very welcome  Tnx, Walter |

That may be a neat solution (and not expensive). Curieus how 'universal' it would turn out to be
Tnx. |
www.racehardware.nl (Guus de Koster) got almost the same as mentioned above.
You can't use the camberbolts of H&R?? Wiebrand |

Something like this Walter?

Damn, I think you've found exactly what I wanted Dirk! :D :D
Wouldn't GWD have these as well perhaps? as he has quite some of the other known gwd parts  |
Wow they press a $20 ball bushing into a steel plate and charge 230wachamacallits. Wheres Lanner? he can make some of those things i'm sure.

caster
Walter..these are from Remmele of Boxer-shop in Germany..and yes there they are a little bit cheaper....
|
What are you saying Dirk?
Are they Remmele parts, offered by Boxer-shop? Price of these is quite steep indeed. Coudn't find these parts on the remmele site... I have send an email with the question of these also fit for later type 1303 cars with the 2-bolt (Golf) stuts as I recall there was a difference in the stut openings with the later type. Can't remember if the later openings were smaller or larger  Tnx, Walter |
Hello Walter
as Dirk said I think also that they are from the boxer-shop, anyway I bought them from PTP (power tuning parts), ask Oliver Knuff to tell you details Friendly JIMP |
Ok, thanks!
Tnx also for the PM Dirk ;) |
Make your own wally. Will cost you I guess an 80-90 euro to cut, 20 euro for unibal, and an euro of 20 to press in the uniball.
Wiebrand p.s. the ones that are posted can not be adjusted. |
@Racelook : i even think it can be made cheaper..but we need an example..

Update on these caster adjustment top bearing retainers:
Lanner has an example, but will not be able to produce a set for the next couple of months... Lee Arnold (LAperformance) said he could/would make some a few moths ago, but hasn't either yet... Topline has been suggested to maken some (by Superman himself I believe), but so far nothing seems to have been happenend either... Promises, promises... So, no-one is making a ready to be fitted product for this and I am not too sure I can make one good enough or safe enough myself :( Bummer! |
Walter you still can buy them by Gerd Weiser, but also 220 eur's...

@ Wally,
I came across these http://www.germanlook.com/Forums/showthread.php?t=8987. From Carrera, a company that makes coilovers.. I spoke with them and they have for 1302/3 plates. While they are for camber, maybe they could serve as an example.. I would have bought them back then but I was struggling with some cancer in my chasis, but now I have a better chasis, and low funds. I may go this route, and if needed modify/replace the plate for both camber/caster. Just a thought, considering the lack of options VR ALex |
