993 Headlamps
Has anyone fit 993 headlamps into SuperBeetle or Ghia fenders? Does anyone know where there are pictures?
|
according to remmell , it can be an option on his wings(requires larger buckets ), i have not seen a set though
cheers jon |
Ive seen them on early beetle fenders and on a Ghia as well :D
|
Say what? How about a photo of that?
|
Hi
Are they a projector style headlight? If they are they usually hang out the back a long way. Steve |
The 993 had two headlight options:
1. Standard Halogen 2. HID/Litronic The Litronic is supposed to be a plug and play upgrade, so even the halogen must have been fairly long housings. |
I am going to fit some clear H4 lights. Anyone else fitted them and how is was it? Any pics would help. Thanks;)
|
You got me curious now! I'd like to see some pics of those on a beetle.
|
I have H4's on my Ghia; they look dead stock (fluted lenses) except that they throw the light to the left side of the road instead of the right. I know I've seen pictures in thesamba.com's photogallery of free form reflector (clear) H4 lamps.

I fitted some Hella H4 semi sealed beams to my daily 1303. I used early Mini headlights, these screwed into the existing holes in the Beetle wing/fender/guard You could do the same with the clear ones. I then cut the adjusting screws from my stock headlight rim and just bolted it back over the light using the stock screw. Steve |

Xellex - I presume these are LHD ones? I couldn't find ANY in RHD for those of you who may be wanting them in the UK/AUS :(
|
well yes, my car is a LHD, but I don't think the manufacturer of these headlights makes a difference. Everything you can do is adjust them from their screws.
|
I feel it necessary to mention that, in the US at least (and I'm pretty sure Europe as well), most HID conversion kits are illegal. A legal HID kit needs to feature self leveling projectors (to avoid dazzeling on-coming drivers), and headlamp washer jets (because HID casts strong shadows if there is stuff on the lens).
|
Can you send me some details of where you got them from?
Al |
yes vedevotee that's very true, it's what the law says but they aren't really applying that legislation yet (at least not in Europe). Anyway I'm gonna try to get some lens for them too. There's been alot of discussions on different forums about the HID kits and law aspects so I'm not gonna go further into it.
al_kaholic do u mean the HID kit or the clear sealed beams? |
The law is present for the UK, however I'm not sure of the enforcement of it too much at the moment.
I'm interested in the clear sealed units :) |

Good morning Xellex, Can you tell me more about your HID set-up? I'm going through the threads and haven't yet stumbled accross what I'm looking for. It appears you have a possible winner. I'm looking to upgrade to HID in my '65 Ghia without changing the fender. I look forward to hearing your thoughts.
