Something a bit different! WARNING: CONTAINS FORD
Thought id share this with you guys as its kind of race inspired. So this week I've been working on something a bit different to the usual rusty vws I seem to get in. My friend always had capris when we were younger and used to go cruising round local towns. He took a break for a while but got another Capri last year which I did some metal work on. Well he came down this week with a but of a crazy plan. 5 link rear suspension, convert the front struts to coilovers and fit a great big 4.8L Chevy v8 (LR4) with a 6speed manual dodge viper gearbox.

Thanks guys,
I really enjoyed it last week - made a welcomed change! Plus it was nice to have Rob in the workshop. Once ive stitched the tunnel back together, ive got to sort the metalwork around the shifter AND move the handbrake lever back lol. I think it;s going to have to go back about 4" which means Rob will have to get some custom cables made. Also have to modify the bonnet to clear the throttle body and alternator. The car will then go back to Robs for Fuel/eletrics/cooling system and suspension set up. He's going to have a custome xhaust made for it too as the header doesnt clear the steering column on the driver side. As i say, not everyones cup of tea, but makes for a nice change. |
Nice!
Definitely keep the updates coming...please. ;) -Dave |
This thread deserves an update...

Hey Dave,
funny you drag this thread up again as the car sat there for nearly 6 months......but i spent last week on it!!! My work is now done. I welded in a brace for the panard rod mount, welded in a rear strut brace/harness mount. Welded in some seat bars. Fitted flywheel/clutch and custom prop. Raised the tunnel by 4 inches and finished off the bulkhead. Also, rob decided to go with an LS1 inlet manifold, alternator and waterpump.....which drops the throttle body by 4 inches. unfortunately he decided this AFTER we cut a ****ing huuge hole in the bonnet to make a bulge!!! il get some pics up when ive uploaded them!! the car is now heading back to Rob's for him to install the hydro clutch, cooling and fueling system. Then it's time to rock :D |
bit late....but theyre not the most thrilling pics
brace for the panard rod bracket https://fbcdn-sphotos-e-a.akamaihd.n...02394124_n.jpg raising the tunnel by nearly 4 inches! Didn't just want to box it in - wanted to try and make it look as factory as possible https://fbcdn-sphotos-h-a.akamaihd.n...83149840_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-b-a.akamaihd.n...25295783_n.jpg seat bars going in https://fbcdn-sphotos-c-a.akamaihd.n...75567571_n.jpg rear strut bar/harness mounting bar also welded in https://fbcdn-sphotos-e-a.akamaihd.n...75654590_n.jpg water pump/housing/alternator mount and bottom pulley all changed to allow the shorter inlet manifold. everything will now sit under a stock bonnet - this thing is going to be a real sleeper https://fbcdn-sphotos-c-a.akamaihd.n...76845125_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-f-a.akamaihd.n...40353083_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.n...44610442_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-b-a.akamaihd.n...06127835_n.jpg so thats me done on it...the car is now back with rob....cooling/fueling systen and wiring left....cant wait to see it on the road! |
So time for another Ford update. Rob was having difficulty finding a reasonably prices exhaust fab company....he was looking around the £2,500 mark for a set up....so i suggest we fab'd up a system for him. Next thing i know he's turned up with the car on a trailer and a load of stainless tube :D
One box and some tube http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...7.jpg~original Had to modify one of the lovely new manifolds to clear the steering column/starter motor http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...1.jpg~original http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...b.jpg~original http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...2.jpg~original After making the full system, we cut it in half and welded on these awesome clamp ends. i've not used them before but i'm well impressed! http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...5.jpg~original http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...2.jpg~original http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...5.jpg~original That's 3 1/2 inches! http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...0.jpg~original http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...9.jpg~original http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...1.jpg~original also welded up the hole in the bonnet! http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...9.jpg~original Hoping the new fuel reg will turn up in the morning, need to prep and paint the bonnet and set the tracking - then MOT time :) just uploading a short video of the engine running |
