944 brakes on Oval
So im told this is the place to be ragarding porsche brake upgrades!
im also told im restricted to pre-87 single pot 944 brakes since i want to fit 15" fuchs. Anyone got some decent pics of this conversion? thanks!! (my first post! :D ) |
Yah, with the 944 single pots you need to run 15"+ wheels.
Sounds like a fun project though! Early cars with a little modern twist are sweet. |
ha welcome to my world... its not a oval but a 69 standard irs and i was looking into running fuchs but 993 brakes just won't fit.. and i could'nt find an american torque thrust that were a porsche pattern...so my some what cal looker is turning german wit porsche boxster wheels..

many thanks! |
Nothing special, a complete set of brakes for a 944 font in a junk yard, I've refreshed the all batch and installed it, all the rear is a "plugg and play" , you just a have to modify the end of the kand brake cable, for the front, I'm machined a set of CB perf springles and the 944 and welded both together...
I drive that car since many year without any problems... |
4 Attachment(s)
Hmm.. I'm running 4-pots with 6"x15" Fuchs! I only needed 6mm spacers
It fits like a glove... Even with a normal front beam.. Jesper Attachment 2212 Attachment 2213 Attachment 2214 Attachment 2215 |
944 Brakes
Hello
I have recently purchased a 1968 beetle cabrio and I am looking into installing 944 brakes. It sounds from the previous threads that single and four pot calipers are ok with 15 inch fuch alloys. Does anyone know if brakes from a 944 s will fit. These have abs fitted. Is it better to get the pre 87 brakes circa 1987. Thanks for your help. |

I want upgraded braking, but want to stick w/ 15" Fuchs (earlies). What parts did you use for everything? I would prefer to use new (if available) parts. Thanks! |
new? You must have money to burn, Those calipers are $500+ each new. New rotors and pads is one thing but....

I really want the look of Big Reds, and this is a project. I guess I'll start saving my lunch money now :) |
Big reds are even more. I bought used calipers and painted them up see here. http://www.germanlook.com/Forums/showthread.php?t=7571 with new rotors. Nothing wrong with good used parts.

I see you stuck w/ Link Pin suspension, CB performance (lowered?) spindles. That's my plan. I guess I'll have to stick w/ Boxster calipers to fit under my 15" fuchs. What size rims are you going to run? |
Thanks for the compliments. My 15" phonedials didn't fit so i'm going to 17" twists. I yes they are cb drop spindles, You can get away with with "certin" 15"s with a combo of spacers and "machining;) " calipers slightly, but not for me or my steup. Good luck with them.

i think the point is that you don't want to buy "new" ones. hit a junk yard or parts house and pick up a set of used calipers and associated hardware. you can pick up a whole set used cheaper than one caliper new.
