Check out www.pelicanparts.com. They have forums for the 911 similar to this one. You should be able to get plenty of information on the various 911 engines, their strenghts and weakness as well as various modifications to improve what you already have.

A good book to purchase (probably from www.amazon.com) is the 911 performance handbook. I purchased one when I was tuning my 79' SC. Very good book.
