Whether a tire is directional or not depends on the tread pattern. Its the configuration of the tread pattern that dictates if the tire has to be mounted one way or the other.
There is only one function of a tread pattern: to allow space for water. If you are observing dry weather traction, it has nothing to do with the tread pattern, or if the tire is directional or not.
