Not to be rude or anything , but isn't using a different program not considered stock anymore ? But I can go with the 350 HP figure , as GM has designed the Ecotec to handle upwards of 750 HP . The bottom end design came from the latest Corvette engine . Axl .

Well it very near stock anyway. That is the only mod to the engine to my knowledge but you might want to check with Panel first.

The ecotec engine will fail at around 400 hp. 383 hp if I remember correctly from the testing done on that engine for drag racing research. At 750 hp you need aftermarket crank/rods/pistons/head gaskets/head mods, intake and exhaust.

Axl,
Boygenius pretty much nailed it. When I say I have a stock engine, I mean that the engine itself is stock. No header, no aftermarket cams, no nitrous, stock compression, etc. Yes I do have a different engine management than stock and it adds 30+ hp to what an Eco normally puts out. It's just an optimized marine program that still runs clean but makes power instead of being de-tuned to safeguard against a clueless public. I only mention it being "stock" because in the aircooled world you would have to really build an engine to make this kind of hp reliably and for the Eco it is only a starting point. With a trick head, cams, header, etc, making 225hp easy is already proven... with boost, even more. All this info is based on actual engines running in sand cars and is not reflective of what is possible for a GM car that has so many restrictions/limitations.

Okay , I can buy that explanation . Obviously things are going to have to be changed in order to achieve a higher HP output from any engine . I am just going by the numbers that the General is giving us . I am currently a GM Goodwrench Tech , and I get the opportunity to work on alot of the Ecotecs . They are a good engine from all that I have seen . The only piece of advise that I can give you is - if you change your own oil , DO NOT USE WATERPUMP PLIERS ON THE OIL FILTER CAP!!!!! I had a rental car come in from Enterprise rent a car that had just been serviced by an independant shop , and they cracked the oil cap by using waterpump pliers , and the engine eventually ran dry from all the oil leaking out of the cap . The engine was fried , and cost the shop who did the work alot of money to replace the engine in this car . It ended up being something like $15 thousand with labour and taxes when all was done . I ended up having to buy a socket just for the filter , so I wouldn't do the same thing . Axl .

For that much you could buy a new car.

I am not sure exactly how much it actually ended up being , but I do know it was very expensive . Also , don't forget that this is in Canadian $$$$$ , which means it would probably be closer to 8 or 9 thousand American (rough guess) . The car in question I believe was worth about 18-22 thousand Canadian brand new (it was loaded) . I guess you have to take into account where I am when you look at the money question . Not only is the American dollar worth more , but as Canadians , we are paid more per average than Americans , but we also pay more for the same items , and we are taxed at a higher rate than Americans (right now I pay about 40% taxes , and thats not close to being in the highest tax bracket , which is very close to 50%) . In the end , I think I would prefer the American system over the Canadian system anyday . As a matter of fact , our leader (called a Prime Minister) and his party (the Liberals) were just found to have wasted on what is called the Sponsorship Scandel , several BILLIONS of dollars . The sad part of it all is that not more than six months after this all hit the fan , the public STILL put them back in power in the last election . Only in Canada . Axl .

Canadians aren't the only ones... US polititians can steal, lie, get busted for buying and selling drugs, commit conspiracy, you name it, and still get re-elected.

Only in Canada . Axl .

I forgot about the conversion rates. It still works out to about the same percentage of the cars total value.

I pay around 28% taxes to 33% depending on the amount of my paycheck.

Only in America...
