No I don't think I'll make it to BugJam this year. My VW is currently in the body shop, and I'm overly committed until December. I'm at FSU right now trying to get a BS in Nursing. Takes up most of my time. If only Bugjam was closer. But once the car is finished I should be able to get to more events.
As for the TR.... That's the reason my tinker toy is a VW. If you guys thought expenses get out of hand on VW's, check out the prices on TR parts!!!! Ridiculous. My father in law has had 2 TR4's since they were new and he knows his way around them. Lucky for me. He does most of the maintenance on the wife's car. He's built up stockpiles of parts. I had actually thought about buying another TR for my next project, but there's no backseat, and I couldn't stand to see the bug waste away. Yeti, are you going to the British car meet in St. Augustine this weekend? The wife's folks are going. They do VTR and all of that stuff. The wife and I did the convention in May and it was a hoot. There's a picture of the car on the Temple of Triumph website under funkhana. It's a red 6 with me driving and my wife hanging halfway out. Great time. Anyway guys, thanks for having me. I'm sure looking forward to it, and I'll keep you posted on the project. |

No Don, I don't do to many shows with my TR6. It's got a pretty shiny paint job, and is structurally sound and all, but it's a drag to drive over 200 miles at a time. I re-bushed the suspension with urethane bushings, and replaced the springs, so it rides really stiff, but handles like mad! I probably couldn't afford the gas either (3 Dellortos
). The last show Sue and I drove it to was British Car Day at Tanglewood in High Point, NC back in '99 when it still had stock springs, two carbs and some decent milage. As you correctly stated, the price for spares is astronomical. I'll prolly have to sell my Bug when it's done to afford the overhaul on the TR6. I got a couple of parts cars to pick over though. One's a '69 the other's a '71, so the engines, and tranny's are slightly different, but they've certanly paid for themselves over the years, which was the cost of a tow.I lucked up on mine. It belonged to my old boss. I found it "barn fresh" where it sat for 12 years, and traded my old sandrail to get it. He made the offer and I couldn't turn THAT down. :agree:

Yeah I know what you mean. Back in July, the wife and I did a 250 mile round trip in the 6 and I was ready to get my butt out of that car!!! Those seats just aren't as comfy as they should be.
I was drooling over that triple carb setup at the last convention. A guy from Coral Gables had them on his 74 TR6 that also had a sweet removable hardtop and A/C. I'm still running the stock twin carb setup, have to save up for the triples, but then again, I don't know if the wife needs that much power! Next time I've got the 6 and the two TR4's together I'll take a picture and shoot it to you. |
