there was a Scat one in the Ghia i just got. nice enough construction, but the foward bottom interfered with my right foot so it had to go. the one i have will not accomidate a stereo as the top and bottom are hinged doors. i can't say if they are all like that though. check out No_H2O's car in the member's gallery and you can see it in the tech articles he has done. he built his own (very nice i might add) and can build others. you can check out more of his products here and check him out in our vendor announcements area.

i'm thinking of having him build a custom one for the Ghia as i want it from the shifter back with a armrest behind the e-brake handle. he built me a custom speaker box that kicks a$$.

here it is (i am a musician, so i asked for the custom one-off)...

Thanks Scotts73SB, I thought it would be cool to make Zen's look like a Fender Twin Reverb. I built mine to be light and didn't inclose the shifter base with it.

Wow, I just re-read this thread with a bit more attention to detail than in the past. I looked at NO_H2O's set-up in the past and disregarded it because it appeared to be a one-off.

The Scat unit appealed to me mainly because my desires for my 1302 is more subdued than it was for the 1303 I originally had planned on buying. So, instead of rollbars, racing seats, rear seat removal and the like, the Scat "Rally" interior is my current front-runner for upgrade. The console and back-panel seemed to be my best non-one-off choice because (a) it would match, and (b) well, there were no other choices. The Scat unit didn't thrill me even before Zen's review because it would have still required someone doing some custom work to it.

The units posted here and at the site are very encouraging indeed. When I get closer to that portion with my project, I am going to seek out details.

One question in the meanwhile, can DTM Engineering do installations as well?

I can do the installation. In fact it would be better if I did because my stuff is one-off. I can go from measurments and test fit it in one of my VW's then ship it to you also. Just email me with your thoughts and we can go from there.
