Got a problem...
I think Gene Berge has a type1 race tranny that will work for your application. I must say it is very heavy on the pocket book.

it doesnt have to be a Gene Berg tranny, unless you are considering a 5
speed tranny. If you are going 4 speed, then any reputable shop can build you a race 4 speed with aftermarket ring & pinion and aftermarket gears. Also a gusseted case would be a good idea, as well as billet side covers and a super diff. You are looking at around $1500 minimum for a tranny like that, possibly up to $2000. If you wanted to save a little money (but with more risk of breaking stuff) you could go with a Super beetle R&P and a stock 1st & 2nd gear and this would save you about $500. A Berg 5 speed will cost you $3000 to $3500 at least.

There are a lot of good transaxle builders out there. Try giving Kevin at KCR a call. He's a straight shooter with a solid reputation. Tell what you have and he'll tell you what you need. And no BS...
