There's another update.

Today I brought the camera with me so I could make some pics of the little progress I maked the last 2 days (I'm now closing an verry verry bussy period with school, so my spare time finally can be used for my bug)
Sorry for the green pics but this is our "Turtle-camera" (after an fall).

Yesterday I had welded some metal plates (hooks) for the front controlarmsbrackets that will give some mores strenght. Tomorrow there also be welded some of that plates on the top of that brackets.

Today I was looking for an aluminium "crash-plate" for the underside of my chassishead (so something of the car stays complete when I hit an traffic-humb). But this costed 3 euro/kilo at the "old stealman" so I have to find antoher solution for that.

Yesterday evening the gearbox was stoomcleand. This is the result.

Yesterday also welded the hydraulic handbrake-bracket together. And luckily everything works also  (everything except the HRC is handmade). Also an wooden mold made for the handbrake-lever. For this handbrake several things were made tonight and will be completed in the next couple of days. The handbrake is for 60% ready.

Today I only maked some plates for the front control arms. SO it was not an quite productive day, but I soon have more spare-time.

So here some updates where I didn't had time for in the last week

On sunday one week ago, I resumed making my own mid mount. I almost spent an half day at it, but hell yeah it saves some (hard needed) money. But everything looks damn sexy!! B-Tuning Productions all the way

I also welded the front brackets off, so everything is verry studdy.
On the monday I most of the time drived around to get stuff. I also welded some pieces of my handbrake-bracket. Welded some nuts in the chassistunnel so I can bolt the handbrakebracket on my tunnel.

On Wednesday i work hole the day on my car.

I also today got my front trailingsarm back were the bushings were pushed out.

Wednesday one week ago i welded several unused holes close in the chassistunnel, so it stays one clean thing. Also is the hole for the original handbrakecables enlarged so I still can use them on my hydraulic handbrake.

An little bit unclear picture, maja

Handbrake-bracket is on.

Two holes in the bracket so the handbrake-cables still can be used.

On thursday one week ago (I know I'm verry bussy with my car so I couldn't update earlier ( my car is going to an show this saturday 23 of July, thats why).

Sandblasting works SUPER!!.. one side of my chassis tooked me 45 minutes. You cant keep that up with your grinder.

I used an 10m3/min aircompressor, Man that thing blows some air out.

On that day the hole chassis was blasted and several pieces of the body we blasted.

Hey Wiebrand,

Finally I found some time to read this topic. You ’re doing great! I like your project.
What are the specs of your engine going to be and looking to the pictures I assume you are going to use the original gearbox? Or am I going wrong there?

Have you ever considered to use Teflon brake lines? What brakes are you going to use to stop your bug?

I wonder who finishes his project first, you or I.

Cheers,
Luuk

Hi Luuk

By not having so much money (I'm glad that I can afford this already) as an student I will drive with an original engine (1600 with spagetti and bigger "sproeiers") and gearbox. Money is also the reason why the brakes stays small (readriginal). But in the (hopefully) near future there will be some BMW brakes on my car.

And yes I had tought of stainless braised teflon brake lines. But I found them too expensive. ( I think the next time i will do it different and go with stainless all the way)

I have to say that i just admire your fab skill man...but,
how much weight is the reinforcement of the control arms? i think it would have a negative effect on the suspension frequencies... I was thinking of designing a proper lower a arm for the front
