Craig,
my nosecones are about 30 mm shorter than the original ones. If you give up 30 mm in the Beetle to istall a gearbox there´s not enough space left for a normal installation of the engine. With my nosecone the gearbox is positioned just as the type 1 gearbox (measured at the bellhousing). Martin Bug @ 5-Speed
