Good post Clive, all true imo ;-)
Thats also why I like a very high grade alu to be used for this, which would have to be machined from bar as my disk set-up isn't like any standard offering, which unfortunately is very expensive.
Since my hats are now made from stainless, with a thick pad for a (non-existing) handbrake liner in there as well, I am sure I can save quite some weight by using a dedicated alu hat.

I have one extra set of wilwoos HD dragracing blank hats, they have 8x7" pcd, so there is a lot of rotor choices. I can get them drilled for any wheel pcd and even added 12x7" pcd for more rotor choices.
