I think they just look better in black.
Brian's looks really good (the Blue 1303) because he matched the color to the bumper so it gives the suggestion of a single unit. The Orange beetle in the pic below Brian's car actually looks like a different design, which I must say is very attractive. I agree the unit in the bottom 3 links just doesn't look all the good.
