Need help - 944 spring plates
I am in process of performing a coversion to 944 brakes on my 1974 Super Beetle. Parts were pulled from a 1985.5 N/A 944. Since I pulled the parts in the summer and waited until now to do the conversion, I did not realize that I also required the spring plates and spring plate covers to mount the aluminum trailing arms. The car is now gone.
Will any 944 spring plate work (N/A or turbo, with steel or Al trailing arms) or do I need the ones specifically for the early Al trailing arms? Any other suggestions? Has anyone modified the VW spring plate to fit the Al trailing arms? |

I think that any 85.5 and later spring plates will fit but I'm not sure. There is a entire rear suspension piece on ebay for sale right now. Just type "porsche suspension" It was only $50 yesterday when I was looking.

Thanks for the help. Unfortunately the guy that was selling the rear suspension on ebay sold the spring plates to someone else and then revised his listing.
I did end up finding the spring plates at Parts Heaven ($50/pr) and also got 911 torsion covers ($20/pr) instead of the 944 covers (Superman's suggestion) so that I don't have to do additional modifications. |
