I'm running MaxxStruts.
Around here (GL'ville) the Super(ior) is not thought of as a Bastard. It is the bug of choice for most.

I thought it was all going to be simple for an 03 too, but when I researched it isn't just a case of swapping over the spindles and using Kerscher ball joints.

There is also:

+ve camber in the Porsche spindles needs correcting (triple C camber bolts?)

Extending the tie rods

track increase (need late 03 parts which are wider and the brakes add another 10mm per side?) Only early spindles have the speedo cable hole in them.

I think a tech article is needed!

Don't forget the 944 master cylinder is also needed (for the single pot brakes) so there is a whole lot more fluffing around fitting things up.

I thought Superman was writing a tech article ages ago...

Cheers

It was going to be printed in VW Trends but they are now defunct. I'm working on getting it printed in Hot VWs magazine.

Sorry Superman...Having re-read that comment, it doesn't sound too polite.

I thought you had already written something, I'm sure I've got articles (all be it forum "thread" based) from yourself discussing all the things to be aware of when doing this conversion. I can't remember where I found them now.

Watabug, if all you want to do it fit Porsche Wheels, then sure fit adapters and wider guards, I really wanted bigger brakes, thinking back now, I'm not sure why, but they're on the car now and they work, so I'm not about to fiddle with them in a hurry.

Someone starting afresh with little experience, I would point them to vdub engineering http://www.vdubengineering.com/products/brake.htm or V-force http://www.beetleracing.com/catalog/...3e47e9a535169e.

Those that are old hands at hotroding will most likely be able to figure things out themselves.

Amen to that! I bolted up my 944 N/A brakes last weekend and discovered these problems too. The general word is that N/A brakes will just "bolt-up" when you use the Kerscher ball joints, but there's a lot more to it than that.

Could the track control arm be made adjustable by welding in an adjustable rod in the middle? This would allow you to fine tune the camber pretty easily. If this was done, would there be difficulties with the top of the strut binding or is there some "flex" up there that would allow the track control arm to be lengthened?

not to undermind the value of this forums, but superbeetles.com and superbeetlesonly.com have a few tech articles that may be more specific.

Hi

I reckon the best way for front super brakes is to use Monoblock calipers as they have radial mounting, then use stock disc brake stubs and have an alloy block made up that bolts to the stock calipers ears, then use a turned down drum or disc hub as your hub for some rotors you can just drop over.

Having fitted the 944 NA steering knuckle and dealt with all the issues to make it work I would agree with Steve.

Using the stock steering knuckle has some major benefits, the main one being that you don't alter the steering geometry negatively.

Although the monobloc callipers are much more convienient to make a mounting bloc for I would have a careful look around at what I could use that would allow good front to rear brake balance with the stock master cylinder.

Cheers
Jeremy

Hi

The Boxster monoblocks dont have over the top piston sizes. front are 40 & 36, rears are 30 & 28. They also dont need really thick rotors. Im using Boxster rears on the rear with a stock 19mm M/C
